rralston -> New Sender filter tagging without being enabled (17.Jun.2008 9:33:58 AM)

ME12 build 200805008

I started getting Exchange admin emails for failed NDR spam that were tagged with [NEW Sender] even though the New Sender filter is disabled. To troubleshoot, I added a logging file for the New Sender module to see if it would log anything, and it does.

Again, the New Sender module is disabled, so why is it tagging and logging some email?

Example from new sender log file (I changed domain to @MyDomain.com in this post):

"06/14/08 21:31:55","New Senders","POSTMASTER@quixnet.net","postmaster@MyDomain.com","Mail status report","Tagged","Non delivery report original recipient is unknown"

I was just about to report this. I did manage to get it working again by turning it on, applying, then turning it back off, applying. But now even that seems to fail.

quote:

"06/17/08 15:31:44","New Senders","postmaster@ourdomain.com","me@ourdomain.com","Delivery Status Notification (Failure)","Tagged","Non delivery report original recipient is unknown"

In the new build of GFI MailEssentials (20080508) this feature will be looking at the NDR messages.  It will take the action configured for New Senders even if the module is disabled.  This is used to help control the delivery of spoofed messages that cause NDR's.
