MRG -> Winmail.dat issue (8.May2008 4:28:17 AM)

Hi,

We have installed the trial version of GFi MailArchiver and have been quite impressed and are looking to buy it very shortly.

We just have one problem.

We have 3 Exchange servers in our organisation. 2 Exchange 2003, and a 2007 server.

Both Exchange 2003 servers are behaving great. We have 1 Journal mailbox hosted on our main Exchange 2003 server, and the IMAP service installed on the 2003 server which MailArchiver is polling well for all 3 servers.

We have an issue though with the Exchange 2007 server. It seems that any email sent from the Exchange 2007 server comes through as Winmail.dat in MailArchiver. This is obviously annoying, as it means the users can't easily browse the archived sent items.

Has any one had this issue, and is there an easy work around/fix for it?

I am going to try setting the Exchange 2007 server as the journal host to see if that fixes the problem, but I would prefer not to due to physical location.

Thanks

MRG,

For your situation, I would recommend leaving GFI MailArchiver installed where it is but rather have your 2007 Server handle the journaling of all messages.  From that point you can just setup a new "Mail Server to Archive" from within your current install of GFI MailArchiver and use the IMAP Protocol to connect back to your Exchange 2007 Journaling mailbox.
There is an x64 version for those running just Exchange 2007 or want to install it directly on Exchange 2007 (if they have other servers involved) but you don't need to reinstall anything.  Just use Journaling on the 2007 server and have GFI MailArchiver grab messages from that server using IMAP.
