joestern -> whitelist by user, not by IP (6.May2008 4:14:21 PM)

Is it possible to whitelist a user regardless of which IP he or she is downloading from? I want to be able to download files from any computer on my LAN, not just my personal workstation. However, unless my IP address is on the whitelist, I don't seem to have this superpower.

Can you suggest anything I might change?

I don't know what build you are using, but in the latest build there's a dropdown next to the field where you type your url/ip - here you can select USER.

I hope that does it for ya [:)]

Zerocool -

I've got a superuser group and a regular user group. As you describe, in the superuser group I am listed as a user. (The picture has me in a green shirt, but they got my hair about right.)

Unfortunately, though, if I'm not accessing the web from one of the whitelisted IPs, my file downloads are blocked.

I know that GFI have a problem with nested groups, but since you're adding just you (a user) to the whitelist, I don't see what could be going wrong. However, it doesnt make any sense that you'd have to add BOTH your user AND an IP address to the whitelist - it would just be hitting on your IP then, and make the user addition obsolete.

Looks like a bug to me :)

This behavior is further confirmed with quarantine and autowhitelist.

User downloads file - gets quarantined.
Admin approves file - USER shows up in temp whitelist automatically.
User downloads file again - gets quarantined.
User was only able to download file after we added their IP to the "allow all" download rule.
