srakkhit -> GFIMA v5 not working 64 bit Windows 2003 (4.May2008 2:05:50 AM)

Hi All

We are currently using MA v5 sp1.  Currently it resides on a 32 bit Windows 2003 SP2 running 32 bit SQL 2005 server (dedicated to MA).  However memory usages is the bottle neck.  Therefore I am thinking to moving it to a 64bit Windows 2003 server with 64 bit SQL 2005.

Therefor as a test I am trying to install MA on a 64 bit 2003 server in a Lab, but not succesfull.  I have tried three times on three different server, but getting into same problem.  Installation completes succesfully but when I start the administration console it fails to start and I get the following error message:

Failed to connect to the search service (error code 500)
Requested service not found.

Please help

Regards

srakkhit,

Can you verify that the GFI MailArchiver Search Service is running?  Can you also please post a screenshot of the error in question?  If possible, expand the error and post the screenshot of the fully detailed error message.  Thanks.

Hi John

How do I attached screen shots here?  The error message I am getting as I stated earlier is Failed to connect to the search service (error code 500)and when I click on view detail I get another scren saying Requested service not found.  But the search service is installed and running.  This problem happens only on 64 bit Windows 2003 Server.  If I install 32 bit windows 2003 on the same box there is no problem. I have tried this 4/5 time on two different box.  If you need the screen shot please send me an email to sukumar.rakkhit@bupa.com.au and I will send you as an attachedment.

Sukumar

Hello srakkhit,

Do you have the lastest Microsoft updates installed?  Make sure that the Microsoft package below is installed:

Hi Joseph

I have applied x64 bit version of
Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 SP1 on my x64 bit Windows 2003. Still no luck, same error.  This afternoon I have bebuild the same server with x64 bit Windows 2008 and installed GFIMA and everything works fine.  Therefore I am sure there is some sort of bug in GFIMA v5 and x64 bit Windows 2003.

Hi Joseph

I have noticed that GFI has released a
new build of GFI MailArchiver 5 SR 1 (build 20080430).  One of the bug fix is FIXED: GFI MailArchiver Search Service fails to load after installation on clean 64-bit platforms.  The exact problem I have listed at the begining.  I am sure you guys knew about the problem.

I wonder how's ur progress w/ MA v5 B0430 cuz we are just abt to do the same thing in our test lab but the target size & scope is 2000 mailboxes & 10TB. Luckily, we are not on E2K7 32 or 64-bit. At least not yet! TIA

Hi imatone

I have given up on 64 bit Windows 2003, instead gone with 64 bit Windows 2008 enterprise edition.  I have restored all my past email to this new server and fully indexed it.  In two weeks time I will stop MA on the current server and enable this new one. So far it is working very well specially re-indexing is lot faster than any previous versions and searching also faster.  Just to make sure re-index one database at time (other wise indexing slows down and I had to restart couple of time).  Also give plenty of disk space to indexing location, becausing during re-indexing MA grabs lots of disk space, but once indexing is complete it returns most of the disk space.  The reason I am using Enterprise version of Windows is to take advantace of 16 GB of memory.  64 bit windows 2008 stadard does not support that much memory.  I am using HP DL 380 G5 Quad core with seperate 2 x LUN for databases ans 2 x LUN for Indexes.  I am running 64 bit SQL 2005 and MA on the same box.
