DrewE -> RE: MS Updates fail to DL (13.May2008 5:42:59 PM)

There are many reasons why GFI products may fail to update automatically. Several things to check would include: - Do you have a proxy server?
- GFI products typically use the account the service is running under to connect to the internet. If the proxy settings are incorrect in Internet Explorer for this user account, this can cause trouble with our software getting out to the internet.
- Do you have a firewall that is blocking the connection?
- Be sure to check your firewall logs to see if any connections are being blocked from the GFI server to the internet.
- In GFI Languard Network Security Scanner:
- Can you download the patch manually through internet explorer? Does this download take a long time for the first web page to come up? Does the download take a long time to complete? This could be an indication of timeout values being set wrong, and something you would need to either diagnose your internet connection for or submit a trouble ticket to GFI for as there may be some changes to the system registry to allow for these slow connections
- What account is the GFI service(s) running under?
- Can you log on to the system as this account, open Internet Explorer, and get to an external website?
- Can you download files while logged on as this account?
In the future, please answer the following questions regarding updates to the software before posting so we can best assist you: - Do you have a proxy server?
- Does the proxy server require authentication?
- What account is the GFI server running under?
- Are the proxy settings in Internet Explorer correct for the user account listed above?
- Can you browse the Internet from Internet Explorer when logged onto the server as the above account?
- Can you download files, or are there security permissions prevent file downloads as this account?
