Hello Patrizia, Hello Mark
looks like we are experiencing a serious problem with NSM
NSM is running by our firma for about a 2 years or so.
It was installed on the same mashine with our SQL server.
Some time ago (about 3 months) this server is began to work very unstable - unable to log on (no matter locally or remotely), some services were stopped or not responding, and GFI has always reported the same 2 check errors - WINS database file failed (WINS server is the other server) and DHCP server database failed (DHCP is the other server too).
It happened at least once per week. Neustart solved the problem, but it happened again and again, at least once per week.

We have tried to troubleshoot that issue but without success - the main reason has not been found .
One week ago I decided to move NSM to another server. New installed, export-import config file etc. - OK.
Today, I've experienced 100% THE SAME issue but on the NEW server...

Any ideas?

Hi Michael,

What is the version and build of GFI NSM which is currently installed?

Are you using SMS notifications from GFI NSM?

This is the event ID you get.
Event ID 2020
Event Type: Error
Event Source: Srv
Event Category: None
Event ID: 2020
Description:
The server was unable to allocate from the system paged pool because the pool was empty
Have  look at this http://blogs.msdn.com/ntdebugging/archive/2006/12/18/Understanding-Pool-Consumption-and-Event-ID_3A00_--2020-or-2019.aspx

What build of GFI Network Server Monitor are you using?

Can you also please clarify if you have enabled the following option:

a) Open the GFI Network Server Monitor Configuration
b) General Options > Click on the Logging Tab

Thank you!

@Mark Busuttil

We have the same problem as richardt (memoryleak). We are using the newest version and logging is also enabled.
Until today I have solved the problem as I have restarted the nsm service every night.

Please can you also send me the fix. Thank.

This patch can be downloaded from the following link:

ftp://ftp.gfisoftware.com/patches/NSM7/20070129/NSM7_PATCH_20070820.zip

To implement the fix follow the instructions below

1. Stop GFI Network Server Monitor Engine service
2. Extract the file in the attached archive nsm_engine_r133.rar to a temporary folder.
3. From the folder created in step 4 copy all contents including any sub directories to the GFI Network Server Monitor installation directory
4. Restart GFI Network Server Monitor Engine service.

Thank you!

I noticed this same memory leak problem about a month ago.

I downloaded the patch located at:

ftp://ftp.gfisoftware.com/patches/NSM7/20070129/NSM7_PATCH_20070820.zip

The readme.txt located in the .zip file states that the patch fixes,
"1. Support for GSM devices which have a baud rate of 115200"

Does this patch also fix the memory handle issue?

I applied the patch regardless and will keep an eye on the memory situation.

Hi,

The patch which is discussed above also solves Memory leak caused by the Logging functionality in General Options

Note: The latest build which has been released for GFI Network Server Monitor (Build: 20070803) also addresses the Memory leak caused by the Logging functionality in General Options. More information on this build can be located below:

Thank you!
