Hi, You are correct, this server has been removed from our DNS records for now. It will get replaced soon. Note that the server is still online, and currently servicing quite efficiently. Therefore there is no urgent need to flush your DNS. Thank you bearing with us on this issue.

Hi all, I wanted to post an update on this problem. We currently have 15 servers hosting updates for GFI Software. These should be enough to cope with the load. As has been mentioned in previous posts, we are using DNS to route the requests to a different server. The problem is that the server whose ip address is smallest is getting much more requests then the others. Therefore, while the others are serving updates as expected, the server with smallest ip address is not coping with all the requests. This will result in a timeout when the GFI software tries to connect to the specific server. The ip address that currently has the problem is 64.62.172.18. While trying to troubleshoot the issue in the past days, we have removed this server from our DNS records, and the problem started occurring on 66.98.238.101 (the server with the 2nd smallest ip address). This information may allow you to configure your DNS servers so that requests are not done to these 2 ip addresses. Note that this problem will cause one update every 5-10 updates to fail on your servers. This will not cause any security threats, since most probably the next update request done for the specific AV engine will succeed. However we are fully aware that this is a nuisance, and may cause a false sense of security. In the meantime, we are also planning some updates in our software which will help in such situations. This will include smaller update files and a mechanism which will check multiple ip addresses before notifying the administrator that the update has failed. I will keep you posted on our progress on this issue. Thanks once again for your patience and feedback provided.

I have noticed a MUCH smaller # of failures the past two days. None since yesterday.

Thanks for the information, Nicks. Yes, instead of failures being constant, they are now sporadic. Not ideal, but livable and a definite improvement. - JPB

Hi all, I just wanted to let you know that in the last few days we have done various updates related to DNS mostly. The situation has improved. We are still constantly monitoring the situation. Kindly let us know if you continue receiving any update failure emails. Thank you.
