I have had over 26 failures in the last 24 hours and over a thousand in the last week. I am really quite tired of cleaning out my inbox from these failure emails. Kinda defeats the purpose when my anti-spam/security is spamming me. (As I've stated before) And seeing as GFI seems to not want to do anything about it other than say: 1. Yes there is a problem 2. It's been resolved (when it CLEARLY hasn't) 3. Upload troubleshooting files

Yesterday all the downloads were successful, but today they have all failed.

I'm not sure it's a DNS problem. Last week I was hitting a different I.P. then this week and I'm still getting failures all the time.

This problem seems to better getting worse, not better. Now all 95% of all updates are failing.

I have given up any hope they will fix this. It has been 2 weeks since it was posted in here that there are problems and they responded on the 11th saying they have identified a problem. Here we are 11 days later and it is only worse. I only hope potential customers browse these forums before purchasing this product.

I've added the following A Records in my DNS for update.gfi.com, and the problem has more or less subsided. I am posting them here too in case you may want to give it a try for some relief. 66.98.238.101 66.98.238.102 66.98.238.114 66.220.30.31 72.32.64.166 72.32.64.167 72.32.64.168 72.32.64.169 72.32.169.1 72.32.169.137 I recommend entering those in your DNS server (or I suppose you could use the HOSTS file). Not to fan the flames but I really can't imagine what is so hard about tracking down this issue. Its almost beyond belief. I still maintain that the GFI updater is fundamentally flawed; upon a failure to connect to one of the update servers it should try another one. Having 100 A Records with update.gfi.com is just not the answer, mostly because, if your lookup returns a malfunctioning server that record is likely to be cached and its going to keep on trying it for a while, and in this business you can't afford to wait days to get a lookup that returns a working server, you need quick access to updated virus definitions.

We were told on the 11th June that there was a problem with update server 64.62.172.18. On Friday 22nd June I did the old 'use a web browser to see if you get the login page' test. All the servers that resolve from update.gfi.com passed except this one. Still. So, I did what previous posters have suggested and set up a split DNS on my server for update.gfi.com, with a handful of their best servers. The error emails stopped instantly. Come Monday, I had a pleasantly empty inbox - that's over two days without a GFI error email, something I haven't seen since January. Hardly the best solution, but I don't mind being GFI's DNS administrator if it means the virus checker works - at least 'til the end of the contract. If you'll indulge a little rant, whilst I'm here; If this particular server is causing all the trouble, why don't GFI just take it out of the DNS record temporarily? Why is it still a problem two weeks after it was identified? (although I've been having failures since the 6th) Is this the exact same problem we had to put up with for a few weeks in February? Not expecting answers, just wanted to shout into the wind.

Typical, eh? 64.62.172.18 was listed as an A record this morning (at least in www.demon.net's WebTools). But it's gone now! So, if anyone's still having problems, try flushing your DNS to take out the dead entry.
