Hi all,

I appologise again for this situation.

Last Tuesday, 2 new servers have been made available so as to cope better with the downloads of the update files. Our DNS records have been refreshed to reflect this change.

However, the DNS records of our servers may still be cached on your DNS server.

Thank you for your patience

Going on week 2 of these failures.
Seems like I only ever hit these 2 servers and now my anti-spam/security software is spamming me like crazy with fail to download updates emails.

Hi,

If the updates are failing constantly, it may be something which is not related to the issue mentioned above.

Do you have any firewalls that may be blocking the HTTP connection to update.gfi.com or update.gfisoftware.com?

Firewall...yes
Firewall preventing connection to update.gfi.com... no
In fact, when I go to update.gfi.com from my mail server in a web browser I get prompted for a username and password.

Same problem here... I was out of the office for 10 days and when I get back I have almost 1000 emails from GFI failures! Still happening today, June 19th!!!

So are GFI saying the problem is now fixed and any update problems is because of our own DNS servers? Here is what I get when I do DNS lookups from my server where GFI is installed...

Name:    update.gfi.com
Addresses:  64.62.172.18, 66.98.238.101, 66.98.238.102, 66.98.238.114
         66.220.30.31, 72.32.64.166, 72.32.64.167, 72.32.64.168, 72.32.64.169
         72.32.64.172, 72.32.64.173, 72.32.169.1, 72.32.169.137, 216.218.202.30
         216.218.211.34

Name:    update.gfisoftware.com
Addresses:  66.98.238.101, 66.98.238.102, 66.98.238.114, 66.220.30.31
         72.32.64.166, 72.32.64.167, 72.32.64.168, 72.32.64.169, 72.32.169.1
         72.32.169.137, 216.218.202.30, 216.218.211.34, 64.62.172.18

Could you please tell me if any of these are INVALID?

movo75ca,

update.gfi.com is password protected, however GFI MailEssentials will logon to the web server to retreive the updates. Do all your updates fail, or is the problem occurring every so often?

UnknownShadow,
All the ips that you have listed are valid. I would recommend that you use http://update.gfi.com.

Can you please let us know how many failures you received today?

Thank you.

I was only browsing to the site through i.e. to see if I would connect. Apparently if you get prompted to login the updates should work.
I would say it fails 95% of the time. Today in the last 4 hours I have had at least 40 failures, and like unknown shadow said over 1000 in the last 10 days.

So far today I have received 41 failures and 13 successful messages. What exactly is still causing the problem if my DNS is correct?

By the way, how do you go about changing what site gets used for the updates? I'm using MailSecurity v10. Is it a registry entry?

All I need to say today is that we * 'paying customers' * have been  suffering the Failure problem for three long weeks, there is a lot of us 'customers' having the 'same' problem and all this happens at once.

It is very unlikely that it's our DNS or our MSecurity settings the root cause... and I can't spend more time creating and uploading troubleshooter files!

Nicks, with all due respect I think GFI needs to awaken to customer service!
if MY clients don't get their products for 3 days not even weeks I am out of business.

I totally agree with Marcello.
If all your 'customers' are having the same problem why should I waste even more time on this software creating and uploading troubleshooter files!

Quit with the stall tactics and give us a solution! Needless to say when I go to Exchange 2007 GFI will not be part of the implementation. And I know I wont be the only one dropping GFI if after three weeks of failures all GFI does is ask countless people to upload troubleshooting files.

I just wanted to back these guys up and let you know they're not ranting without reason.
I feel the same way.

Keep your fingers crossed though, guys; I haven't had a failure since about 9:30 (PST) this morning.

Add me to the list of people that have been having this problem for weeks, and have still been experiencing it as recently as this past hour.

No firewall issues here, and nothing has changed from when it was working relatively reliably for years.

I am also still getting failures. Granted, they are less frequent than a week ago, but a failure is a failure, and I consider timely up to date virus definitions very very important.
I think a little more clarity and consistency would go a long way by the GFI support team. I can't count how many times I've called GFI support and inquired as to why I'm getting failures, and they standard answer is usually "I don't know, all systems are fine here".

Just an example:
