Same problems here... Did the DNS suggested cache routine and am still getting the errors. For me, this started happening a couple moths back but it was very sporadic. One day it would fail a few times, then be okay for a couple days, and then start failing again. However, since last night (3/12), it's failing all the time and notifying me every 12 minutes or so. VERY FRUSTRATING! How hard is it to auto-download an update? Apparently very hard for GFI. !!!

Same here. Been failing eery 10 minutes since 7am. I tried Live Support and was told (at 11am this morning) that the update servers were overloaded and I should try opening my firewall to updates.gfi.com and gfisoftware.com. I'm guessing the tech meant all ports?

My question is: If it worked before, why should I have to manipulate my firewall now?

This is the longest streak of failed updates (for me) sincne this started. I've contacted Live Chat Support each time this happened and each time the answer is "Flush the DNS cache and manually update" Well, I'm flushed the cache several times today and tried to manually update. I get a "There are no new updates on the server" message when I try to update manually. Does that result constitute a failure (and produce the e-mail)?

Is there any end in sight for this issue?

Just to add weight to this I also have intermitant problems with updates.  Most common failure is anti phishing.
In common with others it used to work fine and I have not changed config.

Phoned support and was told to use a protocol analyser to see why was failing but havent really got time for all of that especially if I am not the only user with problems.

Mike

Wow, this is frustrating... 50+ 'Failed Anti-Phising Update' messages in my inbox with no end in sight. I'm now getting spammed by my anti-spam software...

Okay... Maybe I'm making progress here - maybe not. I was able to manually download the updates, whereas, I couldn't before it would give me a "invalid or can't connect to server" error message or something like that. Anyway, I finally was able to download the updates by doing the following:

1. Un-check (turn-off) the 'Automattically check for updates' box
2. Click 'Apply'
3. Click on the 'Download Updates Now' button
4. It should start downloading (mine did and for reference, it downloaded 466186 bytes). What's odd watching it is it connects...downloads some - disconnects - connects...downloads some more - disconnects - connects....
5. Once it's done it should give you a 'Success' message with the total bytes it downloaded.
6. Turn on (check) the 'Automattically check for updates' box
7. Keep you fingers crossed that it'll actually 'automattically' download them the next time

Hope this helps.

Well, foobar! "Failed to check for Anti-Phishing updates." Still can't get the auto-updates! Oh, well... Will go to manual and turn-off Auto (and stop it from spamming me) until GFI figures it out. Sweet...

It seems that the severs at GFI are overloaded.
If you're willing, let's try this. If you have your auto update set for every hour change it to every two hours or if you are using three anti virus engines set the first for two hours, second for three hours and third for five hours.
Just a shot in the dark.
This may help reduce the load and the delay should not make a difference in protection as we are not getting them anyway...
From what I can tell when Msec starts it tries to update all options at the same time. If we can stagger the updates this should reduce the load at GFI.

Not to beat a dead horse here, but the story is also the same. Because of the lack of communication and this recent round of issues, I am being forced to look at another solution. This is not a knee-jerk reaction (because of the costs involved), but it is something that will be presented to my manager. There are plenty of other vendors who would just love to have our business.

GFI, I hope you are paying attention!!!

Last night I cleared some more DNS servers in our organization which had the gfi entry and @ 11.34 PM GMT+1 an email appeared with:

Anti-Phishing updates have been downloaded and updated successfully.

After that no more emails with (un)successfull attempts untill 10.34 AM GMT+1 (That's right after I rebooted the GFI server) with:

There was a failure when checking for Anti-Phishing updates.

You really need to take some action Mark and coworkers.

I'm also getting the failures.  I'll try to clear any DNS cache information and see, but it doesn't seem that's the resolution.  GFi needs to get things sorted out with their update servers.

This might help everyone if you are still experiencing the faild updates messages..

I followed the suggestion by Egypt123 and everythings working for me now. I did, however, space out my automatic updates from every 10 minutes to every 1 hour.

Hope this helps everyone.

Tony

I've tried Egypts suggestions, and tried flushing my DNS cache, but nothing seems to be working.

Can somebody tell me the date on their Email Exploit and Trojan files?  Mine are dated 10/31/2006.
It seems like there would have been other updates since then...

All of my antivirus scanners seem to be able to update fine, not sure why the other filters are
having so much trouble...

Every update is scheduled for every 1 hour.
I do not get emails (not for succesfull and not for failed updates) in the administrators mailbox for the trojan and email exploit. The options for successfull updates are ticked.

Norman, Bitdefender and Antiphising updates are succesfull since I cleared the DNS cache last Tuesday.
