Hi Some of our users forward their e-mail to a collegue if they're Out of Office. Problem is, new mail sent to the user's Junk e-mail folder also gets forwarded to the collegue. How does one prevent this from happening? Latest ME installed on Exhange 2003. Clients using Office 2003.

Hi, Unfortunatly there does not seem to be a solution for your issue (although you may want to check further on forums which discuss Exchange specifically). MailEssentials is just increasing the SCL for the email. Exchange will take care of moving the email with the high SCL to the Junk mail folder of the user. From MailEssentials, you may want to alter the Anti-Spam actions so that the spam emails are tagged in the subject. You would then instruct the users to configure Outlook Rules so that spam emails are moved to a specific folder in their mailbox, or in their Outlook folders. The Rules Manager may help you in this task (this is a utility installed with GFI MailEssentials). If you select to tag the spam emails, you would then configure a rule in the Out of Office reply, so as to ignore emails with the tag.

I think I've solved this issue myself. The reason why there was OoO-replies to Spam in the first case was because I think there was some Spam that didn't get sorted directly by the Exchange server. The proof of this was that there was spam in the Inbox in Outlook Web Access and in the mobile device Inbox. The reason for this was probably because the Exchange Intelligent Message Filtering was not activated for the "Default SMTP Server", under: [MyServer] >Protocols > SMTP > Default SMTP Virtual Server > Properties > General > Advanced > [MyServerIP] > Edit > [v] Apply Intelligent Message Filter. I actually suspect that this can be a reason as to why some people have problems with their Spam not getting sorted to the Junk e-mail folder (in combination with the GFI Action "move to users junk e-mail folder"). This setting isn't enabled by default in Exchange. When this setting was disabled, I suspect that the Outlook clients (ie, Outlooks own Junk e-mail filter) was sorting the spam instead of the Exchange server. Thereby some spam was still left in the OWA's and mobile devices Inboxes, and proably also the reason for the OoO-replies. Could my theory be right?

Hi Mats Bjur, You will still need to enable the Junk mail folder from Outlook Web Access. Can you please review the following kbase article which explains how to do this: http://kbase.gfi.com/showarticle.asp?id=KBID002097 Thank you

Yes, that is one thing that needs to be done, but what about [MyServer] >Protocols > SMTP > Default SMTP Virtual Server > Properties > General > Advanced > [MyServerIP] > Edit > [v] Apply Intelligent Message Filter ?

Mats Bjur, You can enable IMF within your Default SMTP server. This should work correctly, as explained in the knowledge base article: http://kbase.gfi.com/showarticle.asp?id=KBID002103
