I'm having somewhat of a similar issue. We used to get a whole bunch of handshaking errors, now we are getting a whole bunch of these invalid fax size errors since upgrading to latest build....forcing data only sounds like a great idea on how to fix this problem...

nevertheless, i have a case open and will contact cantata if needed as well.

If you do contact cantata they will probably ask for the debug logs on the lines, this is set in the GFI FAXMaker Montior program, ont he fax server item, select each line individually and set the debug option. This (as i understand it) tells the Brooktrout driver to create detailed log files which cantata can use to check out the issue. You will need to activate the debugging until you get a few instances of the invalid fax size error and matchup the timestamps in the FaxMaker rcvlog to the timestamps in the debug logs. I found the debug logs pretty hard to read though but the cantata guy who helped me found the problem straight away.

Hi Chillicane, one quick question...did you receive these errors for only faxes received, or both received and sent faxes....we only get this errors on faxes we receive.

thanks,
Isaac

I am using a Diva Server 2FX and I receive the error message "Invalid fax size" if I receive A3 faxes.

If I disable Faxmaker and start the tool "Line Test" which is included in the Diva driver package, I can start a Fax Test tool, which listens for incoming faxes on CAPI. A3 faxes can be received without any problem there.

I also created a trace file, which shows that Faxmaker tells CAPI that one page has been received. I do not see any place where Faxmaker did not accept the fax or told CAPI that anything is wrong.

I really think the problem is with Faxmaker, not with the card or with the driver or anything else.

Also experienced that!

Sender gets an OK-Message from the ISDN Card instead of an ERROR because Faxmaker is denying the fax with that error.

We have Faxmaker for Exchange installed on WinXP SP2.
We are using your recommended EiconDiva BRI-FX2 PCI Card and also spoke to Dialogic Support where we ensured, that the card and the CAPI-Driver are getting the Fax Correctly and get NO error-response from GFI! But in GFI-Receive Log it declines a failure with "invalid message size" (which is surely because of the width you mentioned before) and the fax won't be delivered or saved!!!

So the Sender gets his OK, we get NO fax and nobody is happy :)

We could live with the problem of the size standard, but please is there any solution that the senders get an ERROR when Faxmaker has a size-problem?

we would appreciate your quick help, cause we are getting this error more times a day and
our customers/partners get no info that the fax got lost!!!

thanks a lot in advance
best regards
M

All,

I have seen this issue before and while it can be caused by many things, the most common that I have noticed is that the lines are POTS lines and they have some sort of other device on the line like a phone or another fax machine.  This will draw power on the line and can cause noise.  If you are having this issue you might want to remove any other devices that are attached to your lines, splitters, phones, machines, ect...)

I am using ISDN and another application than Faxmaker can receive the fax.

If Faxmaker waits for the call and I send the same fax again, the error occures in Faxmaker.

This is the CAPI message:

Reason_B3: clearing according to protocol
NCPI (0x1d):
Rate: 14400
Options: 0x4000 (MMR compression used)
Format: 0x0 (SFF)
Pages: 1
Receive ID (0x14): '

So according to CAPI one page has been received by CAPI to Faxmaker, but Faxmaker shows an error message in Windows.

There is no problem with a line or with my hardware.

Hi,

It is seems likely that GFI FAXmaker reports "Invalid fax size" due to the compression used. In the example you provided it says MMR ( Modified Modified Read ) compression is used, while GFI FAXmaker currently supports MH ( Modified Huffman ) only.
