mpietrzak -> Scan all desktops for apps, then compare subsequent scans to the last (24.May2006 7:32:05 PM)

Apologies for the long subject line. I am  new to the product and am wondering if it can provide a function I am looking for.

Basically, I would like to make scheduled scans for say applications of all my desktops (100) then  when the next scan runs, compare that most recent scan to the last scan and notify me if their are any changes.

Is this at all possible? I performed a search and did find some old items relating to scheduled scans and being alerted to differences but they didn't quite seem to touch on what I need.

Thanks in advanced if anyone can offer any help.

Hello Michael,

Do you want to do the scans and compare them manually?

Or do you want the scans to occur and be compared automatically.

In both cases you can use the 'Applications' scanning profile. If you will be scanning the machines manually, you can use the 'Result comparison' tool under the 'Security Scanner' node, to get an overview of differences between the scans.

If you want to the the operation automatically, you just need to create a scheduled scan and have the comparison results saved or sent to any location required (Right click on Scheduled scans -> Properties).

Patrizia,

Thank you very much for the reply. I have now succesfully created a scheduled scan to check the applications from scan to scan.

I am having a problem with performing the same type of task with a running processes scan. Just for testing, I created a new scanning profile that eliminates all items except for the remote processes. I run a manual scan against my local desktop. It correctly reports back the running processes. I then save the scan to an XML file.

I then kill a process, re-run the scan again and the scan results do show one less process running. BUT, when I run a result comparison against the two scans, it comes back as no differences.

Am I doing something wrong that you can see?

Thanks again!

Sincerely,

Hello Michael,

We would need to check further regarding this.

Can you send me a copy of the saved scan results, together with a set of troubleshooter files and screenshots showing the exact steps being taken to compare the scan, to forums@gfi.com and reference the url of this thread in your mail.
