Hello,

It seems that there is a problem with using the Terminal Services Physical Logon Check if you display a warning message to your users before they are able to logon to the server remotely.  Since this is a very standard procedure, is there any workaround for this problem? And if not, does anybody know whether one is in the works?

Thanks,

Jon

I'm having a similar problem with Terminal Services Physical Logon.  In my case we have the server set to only run a particular application upon logon.  What seems to happen is that GFI adds to the rdc connection the setting "Start the following program on connection" and that program is set to "\system32\logoff.exe".  This makes you immediately log off as soon as you've logged in to the server.  I guess the logoff program gets aborted when it's interrupted by a dialog box upon connection.

Therefore I assume the check fails because it can't logoff successfully.

Running the rdc connection on its own has the same problem, even clicking through the dialogs, the logoff program doesn't run after being interrupted.  That makes this look like it'll be hard to fix, because they're using the MS rdc to do that part. :(  To make this check work, they'd probably have to perform the logoff (or at least a disconnect) some other way.

Another consideration is that the box I'm using is also locked down using the MS recommended settings: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;278295

If they do fix this check they should consider:
1. Making it work with a standard warning message
2. Making it work when the server is set to open one application only (which might have a secondary login popup)
3. Making it work on a locked-down box

The kind of servers that are most important to monitor are not those that just give a plain old desktop upon login.

Regards,
Alan

Edited to replace "rdp" with correct acronym "rdc".  I think I've been doing too much scuba diving. rdp = recreational dive planner :)

2 years later is this still an issue?
I am testing out version 7 and would love to purchase this product but am having problems with the Terminal Services Physical Logon Check.

I have an RDP file setup that if I run manually can log on with no issues.
If I add C:\Windows\System\Logoff.exe the RDP file will logon and log off with no issues (of course the password is saved)

Whenever I test out this monitoring check I receive the following message:

Processing Error: Certain data in the RDP file is missing

What specifically am I missing in the RDP file?

Would you please try opening Microsoft Terminal Services Client, creating a new RDP file including the credentials, and determine if this new file gives you the same error within our software?

It works with no problems by manually creating the RDP file, including credentials.  If I launch the RDP file I am immediately connected and logged in to the server

If I point the Network Server Monitor check to this RDP file, this is when I get the error (By choosing the monitor now and testing it out)

I appreciated any help you can provide with this one.

Our other cases similar to this were resolved by re-creating the rdp file.  I would recommend opening a support ticket so we can examine your log files further.

For other users who were /are having this same problem here is a follow up:

It turns out the problem I was having was because I was using Terminal Services Client version 6.
NSM does not support this version.

I did this
--------------------------
How to Remove / Uninstall Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection 6.0 (KB925876)
How to remove it:

Add/Remove programs - uninstall KB925876

Or

if for some unknown reason it might not be there.

You can go to C:\WINDOWS\$NtUninstallKB925876$\spuninst and rand run spuninst.exe it directly from there.

-------------------------------

I then had to recreat the rdp file and it worked

GFI feature request to support rdp 6.0 client please

Thanks

Mike

Even this is not working for me now
RDP 6.0 has been reinstalled  Looks like it is self repairing or something.

Thanks

Mike
