Also, don't know if I'm alone here, but I just got this emailed to me after doing an update.

"BitDefender files was successfully downloaded. But a failure occured when updating local engine files."

Hi all,

The issue seems to have been caused by a set of Bitdefender virus definition files. We are currently in the process of solving this issue. In the meantime, please disable your BitDefender virus scanning engine and restart IIS Admin or the Microsoft Exchange Information Store (if you are running in VSAPI mode).

We'll let you know as soon as we have more updates.

I've rebooted the server and performed a manual update now.

This appears to have fixed the problem.

Ditto here (at three different customer sites). Can't reboot servers during business hours, so BDengine is disabled. I'll be rebooting servers remotely after hours, but would prefer to have some idea what's going on/how to fix before I do. If anyone figures out a pattern to this, or can post definition build details on what works, I'd be grateful...

Does restarting the server REALLY cure this??

I had the same problem, restarted the server and the messages were not being blocked. However, it appeared as though outbound mail was not passing through MSEC (it showed in the MES monitor) and was then reaching it's detination. I have disabled Bitdefender and now outbound mail seems to be passing through MSEC again. I await your advice on renabling Bitdefender, GFI...

I got this from LiveSupport:

Eric: This is an issue with the last update of the files. turn BitDefender off for scanning Internal, Inbound, and Outbound. Set your auto updates top one hour and wait for the update to fix the problem. If the action is delete the messages are gone and have to be resent. This will be resolved shortly.

Hi,

Just wanted to lett everyone know that disabling bitdefender and restarting the gfi services was enhough to stop bitdefender. There was no need to restart the information store.

same here at several customers sites...
all inbound and outbound mail gets deleted/blocked
even a complete empty one

disabled Bitdefender until patch/fix available....

looks like an update 2 hours ago caused it

Boy, am I glad that I manually update the sigs every week.

I must echo another post "Bitdefender gone wild" and say that for a problem of this scope and magnitude, it would be nice to get an alert from GFI.

Emails deleted that can not be recovered without being resent. Yes, we'll just send an email to ALL our contacts saying "If you sent us an email in the last two hours please resend it".

While you are setting this up, GFI, how about letting me know when you release a patch, too. I can't get on the forums to check all the new posts every day.
