ctsmiths -> Default File Checking Rule Issues (17.Sep.2003 4:20:00 PM)

I am on build 821. Has anyone seen this ? It states that the rule is being applied to a pdf file, it really is a pdf file & pdf files are not in my file types to block....I have also seen this on xls file types ?????

Last Error: File "20347-00001.pdf" triggered rule "Default File Checking Rule".
More Info: The file was blocked by the attachment checking module at file type checking stage. The attachment claimed to be a ".pdf" which is identified as being an attachment in category PDF. The file was detected to belong to the category TXT.

Yes - I see this a couple of times a week. Mostly on XLS, DOC, etc. files. Even saw it on a JPG file, detected as a GIF file. I've mentioned this to a tech while I was on the phone about another issue, and he knew about it. Said it was happening as far back as version 7x.

Hi, can you send an e-mail to support@gfi.com about this and if possible incluse a copy of the files which are causing this issue?

I have yet to receive my upgrade key for version 9. If it remains an issue once I upgrade, I will contact support for a resolution.

Mike

Been having the same problem since June. Have twice sent trouble shooter logs, copies of emails, files, etc to GFI tech support. Their answer as of 8/26/03 is that "they are working on this issue in general and hope to have a fix soon".

ctsmiths -> RE: Default File Checking Rule Issues (22.Sep.2003 11:23:00 AM)

OK, how about this. I just received another block. This was a .doc file GFI states is really a .rtf file. I found that the sender created the document in wordperfect and then saved it as a .doc so I could read it in Word. Could this be the problem ???? The same would be for any other program saving as anoter type of program...

Thoughts anyone !

Rick, This problem will not be caused with other applications saving with different extension, since the application will save it to the correct format. The problem only occurs with certain applications when an rtf document is saved as .doc (but the format remains rtf.

I've had the same problem this morning.

Last Error: File "gb8164.htm" triggered rule "Default Attachment Checking Rule".
More Info: The file was blocked by the attachment checking module at file type checking stage. The attachment claimed to be a ".htm" which is identified as being an attachment in category HTM. The file was detected to belong to the category TXT.

Patrizia -> RE: Default File Checking Rule Issues (25.Sep.2003 11:14:00 AM)

Hi Peter, Can you send a copy of the file which caused this issue to support@gfi.com please?

jrh369 -> RE: Default File Checking Rule Issues (25.Sep.2003 11:55:00 AM)

I have a whole mailbox full of quarentined items which failed on this rule for this exact reason.

I'v been playing with and can reproduce it with ease.

Ever night our Veritas Backup program emails me the results of the backup as an .htm file but it gets blocked as a .txt file (actually I think it is xml)

Anyway this rule has to be fixed. I should not matter if someone calls a .txt file a .doc as long as whatever file type it actually is is not on the "blocked" extension list (or associated types).

I will forward several examples to support@gfi.com

Jim H.

Any Answers from GFI Support yet ??????

mrc -> RE: Default File Checking Rule Issues (2.Oct.2003 11:21:00 AM)

I'd also like to know of any progress on this issue?? Is support working even on this??

fnbaiss -> RE: Default File Checking Rule Issues (2.Oct.2003 11:22:00 AM)

I got this back from GFI tech support yesterday.

"Make sure you have the 0821 build and then set the value of hklm\software\gfi fax & voice\gfiav\ext\attachcheck\blockfiles_viaextassociations to 0 and restart IIS Admin."

I've tried these GFI suggested reg changes before on this issue with no luck, but haven't tried this one yet.
