I have just installed Faxmaker 10 onto an exchange 2003 server, no outlook installed at all and have the same issue. The server worked fine for 2 days then the exchange fax connector stopped and now cannot start and just gives a mapi error logon. I also do not have the mailbox fax:i386.
Has anyone found a cure to this yet as I see there has not been a post since 14th May. I have tried all that has been suggested so far and nothing has worked. Please help as this is turning into a real nightmare Cheers

Hi,
Please note that the following procedure as described previously by Nicks, does in some cases resolve the issue:
quote: It seems that the logon account used by the FAXmaker for Exchange connector service (by default Local System) has been removed certain rights. Can you try creating a new user account as shown below:
1. From 'Administrative Tools' program group start 'Active Directory Users and Computers'.
2. Create a new user account (right click an organizational unit and select new->user')
3. Configure the new account as follows: - SET - password never expires - CLEAR - user must change password at next logon - Note: You don't need this account to have a mailbox
4. Give this account administrative rights: - Open 'Domain Admins' group properties - Select 'Members' <tab>->Add - Add the new account
5. Give the new account log on rights on all mailboxes within the store: - From Exchange program group open 'System Manager' - Move to <administrative group>->Servers-><server name>-><storage group>-><mailbox store>->Mailboxes - In the right pane make sure that a mailbox 'FAXmaker:i386' exist within the store. - Open properties of <administrative group>->Servers-><server name>-><storage group>-><mailbox store> - Select Security <tab> add the new account to this list. - Select the account just added and review its permissions shown underneath. - Make sure that the account has full rights including 'Receive As', 'Send As'
6. Change the connector service log on to the new account: - Open Control Panel->Administrative Tools->Services - Open the 'FAXmaker Exchange Connector' properties - From the 'Log on' <tab> configure the service to use the account just created.
7. Start the connector service and send/receive faxes to test the system.
Have you already tried this procedure?

Dear Patrizia
I have allready tried this but the mailbox 'FAXmaker:i386' does not exist in the store. I think this is one of the issues.

I have an identical situation here, but after I created a new service account and tried to start the service I got new error message:
In-Directory path ' does not exist.
I double checked In-Directory path in Connector's properties - it seems to be ok there ...
any suggestions ? Many thanks in advance !

Same situation here. I tried to uninstall/reinstall and now not only do I not have the FAXMAKER:I386 account, but attempts at reinstalling give me a 1401 error.

Hi,
The best solution in your cases would be to upgrade to FAXmaker version 12. This will surely solve the problem, since there is no FAXmaker Exchange objects created any more in this version.
If you are not able to upgrade, please send you troubleshooting files to support@gfi.com.
Thank you.

We are seeing the exact same thing as above. Our fax connector would stop, we could restart and it worked fine for a day then stopped again, looks like when it is overloaded it builds up a queue and hits a limit and stops the service.
GFI support got us to follow the procedure above of changing the logon service account to a domain account, we did this and the service then bombed out with the In-Directory path ' does not exist.
Changed the service back to local system and it starts. GFI support advised reinstalling the Faxmaker exchange connector service. We unistalled the current service (v10) and reinstalled, as it hits 2% of the install it Errors with 1401 error. Currently waiting on GFI support to check out the server, any fixes that anyone knows would be greatly appreciated.

Have been on the call with GFI support, they got access to server and started checking install logs, exchange connectors and exchange users, all looked fine.
C:\program files\GFI\Faxmaker was shared out from a previous install we had run. GFI support unshared folder and re-ran install for FAXMaker exchange connector and it worked fine. Problem solved!

I have had the exact same problem. In my case, it had to do with permissions on the mailbox store. Since the FAXmaker connector logs in as LocalSystem, you need to grant SERVICE the correct permissions.
I think part of the problem might be migration from Exchange 2000 to Exchange 2003. I believe the default permissions are set differently for the local service account. Normally, if you remove a user from the permissions list, such as Everybody for example, the inherited permissions show with the checked check boxes greyed out. I believe Everybody had Read access in E2K but not in E2003... I'm not sure about this though.
Anyway, in Exchange 2003 System Manager, find your Mailbox Store, right-click and go to Properties and then the Security Tab. If you don't have SERVICE listed in there, add it. Give it FULL access (maybe adjust later once you solve the problem).
Now, when you start the FAXmaker connector, the FAXmaker:I386 mailbox should be created if it is not already there.
Note that the permissions of SERVER also affect fax messages in the IN folder. If it doesn't have enough rights (sorry, I don't know exactly what those are - I used FULL rights) you will get the following error in your Event log and the fax gets stuck in the IN folder:
Incoming message processing failed (2): 'C:\Program Files\GFI\FAXmaker\in\xxxxxxxx.sfm'. [ October 06, 2005, 01:19 PM: Message edited by: Ryan ]
