I am having problems with Faxmaker 10 as well. It installed and started the Fax server and the Message transfer agent services, but the Faxmaker Exchange Connector fails to start. I submitted my trouble.txt to support already but no luck. This is the error i get "Could not start the FAXmaker Exchange Connector service on Local Computer. Error 1069: The service did not start due to a logon failure". Any ideas? I checked the Exchange Administrator and did not see any mailbox for Faxmaker. I did see the Faxmaker connector under the Routing portion.

Please help! I need this to work for some execs!

Which account is used for the Exchange connector service?

This should be Local System.

It is the Local System account. Is there something else I can try?

Can you check the Eventlogs for any other errors?

If the problem persists its best to send in the FAXmaker troubleshooter files and an export of the eventlogs (application/system) to support@gfi.com

I have already sent the logs to tech support but they weren't able to help. Are we sure the connector service uses Local System to log in?

Please make sure that you have not removed any rights to the SYSTEM account on the Exchange server machine. This account should be included in the Exchange Administrators security group.

Please let us know how it goes.

Thank you.

I checked the security options for both the Exchange Domain Servers and the Exchange Enterprise Servers and the SYSTEM account has all the rights granted. And Administrator is a member of both. Is this what you wanted or should I be checking something else?

Thanks!

Here are the two errors in the Event log:

Logon Failure on database "First Storage Group\Mailbox Store (EXCH01)" - Windows 2000 account IRBINFO\Administrator; mailbox /o=IRBINFO/ou=first administrative group/cn=Configuration/cn=Connections/cn=FAXmaker:i386 (EXCH01).
Error: 1010

Unable to logon MAPI session

does anyone have the same problem?

One more thing I meant to ask...Is there a specific order in which the Fax maker services need to start? I assume all the Exchange services need to be started first before the Fax maker services can start? Is this true?

Hi all,

It seems that the logon account used by the FAXmaker for Exchange connector service (by default Local System) has been removed certain rights. Can you try creating a new user account as shown below:

1. From 'Administrative Tools' program group start 'Active Directory Users and Computers'.

2. Create a new user account (right click an organizational unit and select new->user')

3. Configure the new account as follows:
- SET - password never expires
- CLEAR - user must change password at next logon
- Note: You don't need this account to have a mailbox

4. Give this account administrative rights:
- Open 'Domain Admins' group properties
- Select 'Members' <tab>->Add
- Add the new account

5. Give the new account log on rights on all mailboxes within the store:
- From Exchange program group open 'System Manager'
- Move to <administrative group>->Servers-><server name>-><storage group>-><mailbox store>->Mailboxes
- In the right pane make sure that a mailbox 'FAXmaker:i386' exist within the store.
- Open properties of <administrative group>->Servers-><server name>-><storage group>-><mailbox store>
- Select Security <tab> add the new account to this list.
- Select the account just added and review its permissions shown underneath.
- Make sure that the account has full rights including 'Receive As', 'Send As'

6. Change the connector service log on to the new account:
- Open Control Panel->Administrative Tools->Services
- Open the 'FAXmaker Exchange Connector' properties
- From the 'Log on' <tab> configure the service to use the account just created.

7. Start the connector service and send/receive faxes to test the system.

Do you have Oulook installed on the Exchange server machine?

What is the version of Exchange you are using?

Hi Patrizia,

Yes, I have installed Office 2003 on the Server machine (together with Exchange 2003 & GFI FaxMaker 10.0).
Any specific issues!??

Many Thanks,
Milton

Am I not right in thinking that you shouldn't install Outlook onto an Exchange box? I seem to remember reading that there would be a mapi conflict. http://support.microsoft.com/?id=266418 talks about the issue with Outlook/Exchange 2000 and I'm pretty sure there's something in the Microsoft KB about Outlook/Exchange 2003
