8. A new feature has been added where a set of GFI Public Folders are created and the users will just drag and drop the emails they want to whitelist, blacklist etc. themselves to it and then ME10 will automatically poll the folders every x hours and process them. This is basically the same concept as remote commands but much easier.
Please advise Joe
Hi Joe,
With the current BETA build, public folder support is only available if the product is installed on the same machine as Exchange.
If the product is installed on the same machine as Exchange then enable the option by 'right-clicking' the main 'Anti-Spam' node and selecting properties.
The next build of the product will also support accessing Public Folders remotely via IMAP.

David Vella GFI
David, the product is installed on the same machine as exchange and I did what you suggested but I do not see any folders in "Public Folders" that refer to anything GFI related.
Thanks Joe
Hi,
Just to clarify, did you open the MailEssentials 10 configuration, right-click on the node 'Anti-Spam' and select properties?
The settings should be in a tab called 'Public Folder commands' just next to the 'Remote Commands' tab.
regards,
David Vella GFI
David, I did as per your instructions. I do see a "Public Folders Commands" tab with a selection to enable public folder remote commands ( I put a check in the box) and there was also a polling interval setting. My problem is that I do not see any folders in my public folders that have anything to do with GFI. Do I have to create the public folders? If I do, what should they be named ?
Thanks Joe

Hi Joe,
No, the public folders should be created automatically either when you click the 'Poll Now' button or else after that 2 hours (default poll interval) would have passed from installation.
If by clicking the 'Poll Now' button you still do not have the folders created then you are suffering from a bug we found and fixed and will be included in the next BETA build.
Meanwhile you can install the patch for this bug manually. Download the patch from ftp://ftp.gfi.com/patches/ME10_PATCH_20040518_01.zip and make sure to read the instructions on how to install, which are in the zip file.

David, I have another question about the public folder feature.
What happens to the mail that eventually winds up in the processed folders? I mean if a user gets a legitimate email and puts it in the Legitimate folder, I'm assuming it will add them to the whitelist. I know that the users will want their LEGIT email back. Is it just a matter of copying the email back to the user's inbox ? IMHO, this can get very cumbersome. Am I missing something here?
Thanks Joe

Yea, I need to know about the Whitelist considering a user will drag and drop there good "keepable" e-mail to that folder. Is there a way to just copy the e-mail to that folder?

Can you kindly provide further information relating to the license migration to v.10? I ask as we have recently purhased a license for v.9 and am concerned as to the downtime this may prove to be come upgrading.
Will you provide the keys individualy upon our contact with yourselves or possibly via a page where we enter our existing key?
Regards

Hi David,
Does version 10 allow you to control the order in which the filters are applied? Specifically, we want to apply whiltelist checking first (of course), but then apply DNS blacklisting, header checking, keyword checking, and then apply Bayesian filtering last.
Based on our testing with version 9, this arrangement would actually work best. With Baysesian filtering turned on, we actually get more spam (although it is marked) than with it turned off, which seems to indicate that if the Bayesian filter catches a message, the other filtering methods are being skipped.
Thanks! Brett Milner

David, I see version 10 has many of long time requested additions, that is good. I wonder if the Archiving functionality can be upgraded to prevent inbound tagged [SPAM] from being archived as an option. I realize that companies may be required by their local laws to record ALL incoming mail but it does not apply to those who don't have such strict requirement and archiving SPAM inflates the files or database to an unmanageable size fast.
You may need to consider the different filter's actions as an option to archive or not... just an idea that can bring a flexible customizable option.
Thanks Marcelo

Hi Joe,
For those emails which the user would need to keep a copy in his mailbox (such as legitimate emails), then all he has to do is that when dragging the email he selects 'Copy' and not 'Move'. That way the original email will still be kept in his mailbox.
Basically, the copying/moving of emails is an Outlook function.

Hi Brett,
No, ME10 does not allow you to arrange the filter priorities altough the Whitelist features do come first.
As to the issue of receiving more spam with the Bayesian turned on I suggest you contact support (support@gfi.com) and explain your issue because it is very strange. Make sure to send also the troubleshooter files to the support department when emailing them..
regards,
David Vella GFI
