Installed MA on Exchange 2000 - getting the "Application encountered a non fatal error: Cannot access application settings. Additonal info: The type of intializer for "System.Net.Dns" threw an exeception".

I have looked at the kb article that refers to this message.....only problem is.....this server is not a domain controller nor is it running SP4, it is running SP3 and is not a domain controller.

The problem is not caused by DC+SP4 itself, but by user rights being set incorrectly.

ASPNET applications normally run under one of the following accounts

NETWORK SERVICE - Win2003
IWAM_MachineName - Win2000 DC
MACHINE\ASPNET - Win2000 / XP
User defined - if specified in machine.config

You just need to make sure that account used by ASPNET on your machine is granted "Impersonate a client after authentication". See http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;824308

so I need to follow the article just as it mentions and use machine\aspnet for the impersonate? do not do the policy local to the machine but use the domain controller security policy?

Yes.
Open Administrative tools->Local security settings. Then Local policies->user rights assignment. Locate "Impersonate a client after authentication" and verify that MACHINE\ASPNET is listed and is effective.

I may also suggest to re-register ASPNET on your server http://kbase.gfi.com/showarticle.asp?id=KBID002202

In case of no success please use MailArchiver Troubleshooter.

Is the impersonate client only added with SP4 - I can not find the policy anywhere in the User Rights Assignments.

Thanks for your help

ok...got it to work....basically upgraded the server to sp4 to see the policy setting...re-registered asp client and reinstalled MA software......

Another question -

the administrator email account - is this the account that has full access to the all emails. I am able to view all emails (I am a domain admin) I do not want the reg. users pulling up other users email. Also, if I want to delete emails that are being archived is there a way? [Cool]

Thanks for your research, we will keep it in mind.

By default after installation of MailArchiver only Administrators have full access to archive. Other users are restricted to browse/search/view only their own emails.

Then you can use MailArchiver Configuration to change Active Directory group which will be able to access full archive (e.g. create group to include managers+admins)

Please note that Configuration is restricted to Administrators only and that cannot be changed
