I need to know if anyone is running NSM on anything other than a real server? I have a brand new Compaq 2.8 Ghz P4 with hyper threading enabled and 512 MB of DDR and I keep having the same problems over and over and over. It is getting old to say the least. I am monitoring 60 devices and running a total of about 400 checks and my NSM 6 keeps dying within about a week of installing the software. This is a brand new install of Windows Server 2003 SP1 with all patches and nothing else on the machine but SMS advanced Client (SMS 2003). The problem is that after about a week, NSM becomes non-responsive and just hangs the PC. Once this happens, the NSM install is toast and hung up. If you stop the NSMEngine service, it will not restart (it gives a 1053 error about the service not starting in a timely fashion). I have sent debug files to support four times now for two different machines and it keeps happening over and over, and they say they can't see anything wrong. The only way I can fix it is to wipe the server, reinstall NSM and then it runs fine for about a week. I am ready to just say to hell with this, but unfortunately, I can't. Has anybody seen anything like this??? Does this sound like a hardware incompatability issue? IS NSM 6 only designed to run on a real server class machine? Ahhhhh! Argghhh! (he runs away screaming, mumbling under his breath and pounding his chest!)

I'm running it on an IBM 2.4 GHz desktop with 2 GB of RAM and mirrored hard drives running Windows 2000 Server SP4 and a local copy of MSDE without problems. There are between 400 and 500 rules.

The same box is running a 3rd party log consolidator with its own local copy of MySql as well as GFI's SELM product monitoring about four dozen servers, also using the aforementioned local copy of MSDE.

Maybe it's a 2K3 thing?

Fergy, we need more information to try and locate the issue you are experiencing.

Before we start debugging ensure you are running the latest build (20050721). To check the build number you are running go to NSM configuration > General > Version Information.

Latest build is available for download from
http://software.gfi.com/networkservermonitor6.exe

Also specify the type of checks you are running.

The support process can be sped up if you run the troubleshooter, and send the files as well as the above details to support@gfi.com.

Hi Fergy,
I use NSM 6 newest build on a HP blade server with Intel Xeon 2,8 GHz with 2 GB RAM. OS is Win2003 SP1 and all patches.
I don't have the problems you're telling from.
Number of monitored IPs: 41.
Number of rules: maybe 200.

Does this help...?
