I applied the patch for the email email notification (or lack of it) but nowwhen I restart the service with the "updated" nsmengine, I get the following in the evnt viewer.. Am i the one with this problem?
Faulting application NSMEngine6.exe, version 6.0.0.83, faulting module ntdll.dll, version 5.2.3790.0, fault address 0x0000869f.
What gives?

Ok, now I am beginning to get really annoyed with this lousy written (and supported!) product IMO..
I have been trying for a few weeks on and off to resolve that email notification and even downloade the so-called patch that was supposed to fix it. Not only it didn't fix but if messed up the install config. Anyway, I finally managed to re-install, put in the new patch and restarted services and guess what .. same stuff! When looking at alert notification, I get the 550 error (relay ..) error...
My question is how so many people can post the same problems over and over and GFI (Since April!) supposely "inverstigating".. I am sick of it, I had great hopes to use that product with some of my clients but I am giving up... Too bad, I have been reselling many of the other GFI products and they work great. On that one, I say good-by to GFI and this junky product. I will probably go back to What'up gold from Ispswitch, at least, they get back to you...

Hi Gerard Louise,
An error that indicates a relaying problem is surely not related to the issue being investigated in this thread. You will need to check the SMTP server configuration settings in Network Server Monitor, and confirm that with such settings emails can be relayed through your SMTP Server. You should also check the recipients that should be receiving the emails. Most probably Network Server Monitor is not allowed to send to one of them.
You can also check your SMTP Server settings and configure it so that Network Server Monitor is allowed to relay to any email address (if that is required)
Should you require, we can provide more help on how to configure Network Server Monitor in order to relay emails through your mail server. You can contact us at support@gfi.com, and send us your troubleshooting files.
rongyer, Is your error message "Unable to reply ..." or "Unable to relay ..."? If it is unable to relay, follow the same instructions as above.
For others who have encountered the original issue (not the relaying issue), we are still trying to reproduce the problem. Note that till now, we still have to reproduce the problem inhouse. The patch mentioned above was issued since the sending of emails had changed, and that could have solved the problem. It also provides us with more logging, so we should have more information on the problem now. If you still are encountering this issue after applying the patch, please contact us at support@gfi.com and send us a set of debug log files. Just in case you do not know how to generate these, here is the procedure:
a) Stop all the GFI Network Server Monitor services. b) Open Regedit (Start -> Run -> Type 'regedit' and press Enter) c) Browse to [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\GFI\NSM6\Config] d) Change the 'debug' dword value from '0' to '1' e) Restart the services stopped in (a) f) Reproduce the problem. g) Send us a new set of trouble shooter files. Please delete the support directory, run the trouble shooter application, zip up and send us the generated files.
Thank you for your cooperation.

We managed to reproduce the situation in our test labs. A solution is presently being investigated. As soon as it is confirmed we will forward an update.
There is an interference caused by a third party SSH communications component which we are addressing with its developers. Until we confirm the fix use the following temporary work around:
1. Temporarily disable ALL Linux checks. This includes all checks listed in the bottom of the new check wizard under the Linux section but excludes any other check applied on a Linux machine, such as protocol checks.
2. Install a separate NSM instance and move all checks mentioned in step #1 to the new NSM instance. This can be achieved by exporting the configuration, importing it in the newly installed NSM and delete all checks except for the Linux checks. Once done, the Linux checks on the main NSM machine can be disabled.
Note: Just disable the checks indicated in step 1. No need to delete them. Once the issue is solved you will only need to re-enable them.

Is this issue supposed to be resolved with build 20050721? I have this build but I am still having this issue running 2003 Server SP1.
All of my test messages are received fine, but I have not gotten any alerts.
