I sent you a email with comments about your log. We could not find any error and the scan seems to be ok, the scan time is normal for Default profile. Noticed that you still use the old build, please try with 20050420.
About the new problem with Profiles which can not be accessed we need another log.
quote:

I log onto the other system with a non-admin account and installed LNSS with the option to use a domain admin account

Do you mean you have installed LNSS being logged with a non-admin account or itÆs about account used for scan&deployment? First case should not be possible... In second case itÆs normal to have access denied errors because LNSS use administrative shares to copy patches (in version 6 you can use custom shares but could be the same problem if the account does not have enough access rights). The same administrative shares are used to detect patches, so in case of a non-admin account I assume the patches were not detected well. Do you try to deploy custom software?
The admin account specified at installation is the GFI LANguard N.S.S. 6.0 attendant service account. This service and its account is used in case of scheduled deployments. In case of immediate deployments the same credentials from toolbar are used as for scan (in your case Currently Logged-On user). So, to be sure, the questions are: is the Currently Logged-On User an admin account? Did you get errors scanning computers?

A 4 hour scan time is normal? I scanned the same segment with LNSS 5 in 20 minutes. I am not using the default profile, I am only scanning for a certain number of missing patches. I did install LNSS with a non-admin account and it was successful. I was able to scan the systems and got no errors but unable to deploy microsoft patches, access denied. I tried alternative credentials and it still failed.

I have settings to check for newer builds at startup and none detected. I checked through version information as well as checking on website for newer builds and both times got a message "unknown error looking for newer builds"

This explain that quick scan time (20 min.)
Try this link: http://software.gfi.com/languardnss6.exe

I am not using the default profile, I created one that only scans for missing patches and only the latest ones. On the system with version 6 the scan took 4 hours and everything responds very slowly. This server worked well with version 5. I did the same scan on my machine with version 5 on it and the scan took 20 minutes. I have already reinstalled version 6 on the server, the link you sent me is a download of a new build is it? I never received your email regarding my logs, could you send it again?
Thanks

We have experienced most of the Scan "hang" problems problems highlighted earlier in this thread. Our operating environment was from a desktop system running Windows XP SP2 and the LANGuard build of 20th April (we had earlier tried to use the 24th February build and found that it was taking serveral times longer as compared to V5 to complete a subnet scan, so we reverted to V5).

We have loaded LANGuard latest build (20050420)(and operated)from both W2K and W2K3 servers without any problems using a terminal server session from our Xp system. Scan times are beween 30 and 70 seconds/system.

This would tend to indicate that the problem in our case could be due to XPSP2, we have naturally tried all combinations of FW and AV off and on without success.

My v6 is installed on 2003, the same system that had version 5, so nothing has changed except the version of LNSS. Not only scans take a lot longer using the same profile as the version 5 but in general everything hangs even when moving around the GUI. The last reply I got was that it was a normal scan time but v5 is a lot faster.

This is the scan time reported in activity window or calculated by you? Because if it's the time reporter don't forget there are three simultaneous threads. What is overall scan time compared with version5 in same conditions?

I said that it is normal in situation when default profile is used in ver. 6, but it is not normal for missing patches profile (but the log received from you was done with default profile and the old build...). So, we need another logs obtained with exactly the same profile used for ver.5 and the latest ver.6 build

Please send any logs and useful info to GFI suport

Times quoted came from an observation of the scan threads during operation. If we take the total elapsed time and divide it by the number of systems scanned - V6 in the Terminal server environment gives an average of around 55 seconds/system. (remember that we have not found a way of operating directly from an XP desktop system with out getting hangs)

From memory V5 scans averaged out at around 40 seconds/system

For what profile was calculated this average time?
Did you noticed the part where scan hang?

Profile we use is the "Default"

We have not found a way of predicting a hang, but we have observed the following:

On a given day the hang will always occur on the same subnet addess and system. (however repete the scan a few days later, and the previous "hung" system scans correctly and it will hang on a totally different address/system)

Once the system hangs the only way of terminating the scan is via the Task manager.

Running (post/pre hang) individual scans on each of the systems being processed(threads 1-3)shows no problems with each scan completing correctly.

The default profile contain more operations than in version5: network devices, usb devices and changes in Enumerate shares and Enumerate logged on user. This explain the time difference. You can create a profile similar with that in ver. 5 to make a real comparison. This profile would be useful to verify if the problem is from wmi operations.
However would be better to contact the support to check further the hang problem.

I've recently updated to the 20050420 release and am now having the "hang" problem exactly as described in earlier messages. I can scan single machines with no problem and have done single scans for each host I see that lnss is stopping on, but they all work. Running the full scan with all 35 hosts in my list hangs every time.

I do have modified profiles, but I've reverted to the "as installed" operations database and it still hangs.
