Ia nutshell, from the packet capture you sent me, if you look at packet #16111 the remote machine tells you to go away, that the request to do it is denied.
Overall don't know why, sent all my info, thoughts, etc, onto the main tester and the main programmer. Hopefully they can figure out a bit more on it.
If/when I hear anything specific (on a fix or workaround) I'll let you know.

Here's a FWIW .....
I have the EXACT thing going on here. I have upgraded to the version recommended, checked my creds, etc.
I'm beginning to suspect that some of the patching we have been doing with Microsoft has changed some very basic netowrk settings (perhaps some local policies?)
Just wanted to report it ...

Here's another abnormality ....
When I try to scan my machine (WinXP fully patched), I get an an error related to the SMB probe that says ,"Session refused : File sharing and printing is not activated!?"
I've got the local policies set to classic as was previously suggested for an XP fix related to SMB probes.
Ideas?

post the debug window stuff and what ports it shows open.
but sounds like one of the ports is closed down and/or just refusing the connection.
Could be one of the patches has changed something, but I can't recall seeing that before.

quote: NETBIOS discovery ... Done sending, waiting for responses ... SNMP discovery ... Community string : public
We've seen this multiple times in the forums, first, the machine is not answering the intial SMB query, still don't know why, from all packet captures I've done the machine is getting the packet (did packet captures on both the sending and recieving machines), but it ignores the packet and does not respond to it. Since it does not respond to it LNSS believes that SMB is not enabled on the machine.
quote: [xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx] NETBIOS/SMB is not enabled on this computer. Resolving xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx...
I believe at this point it is a second SMB packet to attempt comunication, again it is denied/does not get responded to.
Since it could not communicate via any of its attempts with SMB packets it really can't continue doing much of a probe.
quote: Operating System : Windows 9x/XP Operating System : Windows Me/XP
it bases this guess above off of TTL and other responses to ICMP packets.
So back to why does the machine ignore the SMB packet???? Don't know, I know the same machines normally are the ones that ignore it over and over. One of mine is a 2000 Server machine with Terminal Services installed, past that I haven't been able to find any reason for it. I don't know if it is a security policy, a malformed packet, etc....

Had a similar problem SMB not being enabled. On a win2k workstation resolved the problem by going to Network Local area connections advanced settings, adapters and bindings. Local area connection and tick the internet protocol [TCP/IP] on Microsoft file and Print sharing for Microsoft Networks.
The Scan works ok then.
Cheers Mike
