Hi, when I go to the configure the database option according to the what Mannual says, I couldn't connect to the GFEEndPointSecurity4db. I'm using MSDE installed on the EPS 4.0 server itself. How do I create the dabase in the SQL Server?
thanks,

Hi nathanchang,

EPS should actually create the DB for you when you use the "change database" option.

If you are using MSDE, then I can only guess that the SQL instance is not correctly declared. In the case of MSDE, you would need to tell EPS to use "<Servername>" or "(local)" as database.

if you have SQL Express, the format is slightly different as it must include the instalnce name of the database like so:

"<Servername>\<instancename>". I.e. "SVR01\SQLExpress". In addition, you need to make sure that the SQL Server Browser Service is running (or else EPS can't find the SQL) and the named Pipes are activated. If the SQL Server is on another machine, the TCP\IP needs to be activated. These setting are in the "SQL Surface configuration area".

Hi Sven,
Thanks for your reply.
Yes, it's correct, the instance wasn't created at all for some reason. I tried to uninstall and reinstall but failed, all other functions works fine.
When I open change database windows, the server and database fields are empty. I filled local in server field and click ok, it pops up "the database field is empty". Could you tell me how to manually created the database or do you have a script or utility to help me to create it? I have a screen shot but I don't know how to post here.
thanks,

Hi nathanchang,

it's okay, I know the error message you are talking about. basically, some GFI products create the empty DB for you, others require you to provide an empty one for you. One such product is GFi EndpointSecurity. To create the database, you would simply have to open "Query Analyser" (SQL 2000) or select "New Query" (SQL 2005) and type "create database EndPointsecurity ". Highlight the query and click on "Execute". Your database should be created in about 0.12 seconds...

Hi Sven,
I've installed SQL2000 client tools on my computer to manage the MSDE2000. And create the database successfully according to your instruction. But when I configure the GFI database, after I filled the server and database names, it says database already exists, but the structure is not correct.... Any further information?
thanks,

Hi nathanchang,

it means that there are already usertables in the database, or EndPointSecurity does not have sufficient rights to create usertables in the database.

In the EndPointSecurity UserInterface, change the database name to another one and it should work.

Hi Sven,
sorry for replying you so late.
It's resolved by changing another new database name.
And GFI EPS create the new database itself when it found there's no such database exist.
thanks for your help.
