I'm getting a ton of these, some with 0 bytes and some with hundreds of MB. They are filling up my Windows\temp folder and killing my boot partition. How do I change the path of these files, what do they do, and how do I stop it. I do not remember this happening with 6.0 only with 6.1

Hi,

Please check the following post:
http://forums.gfi.com/m_900776517/mpage_1/key_fb_sort/tm.htm#900776543

These files are temporary files used by the database indexing and merging. It is safe to delete them if they are not being used.

Regards,

You can change your Windows temp variable to a drive with more space if that is an option.  These files are generated by GFI's indexing service.  I had to change the Windows Temp variable myself, as my temp files were taking up 20 to 30 GB of space.

Don't forget to exclude fb_sort*, fb_merge* and *.lck files contained within that temp folder from your Anti virus scans.

Ridiculous. I never heard of such a thing. 20 GB of temp files. I can't delete any of mine unless I stop and restart services. Nonsense GFI.

I've got exactly the same issue. There is approximately 12GB of free space on the system partition of the server where mailarchiver is installed. The system partition gets down to below 50MB of free space periodically which is indeed ridiculous. Sharepoint is installed on the same server and doesn't like this one bit.

Why are there not warnings saying mailarchiver will do this when installed with the firebird database?

Moving is adviseable if you can achieve it, preferably to it's own dedicated fast disk as it's not just high disk space but high disk activity on the drive where the temp files are generated.

We have 20GB of free space, not enough though.

So ideally when mailarchiver is installed using the firebird database it should have large high speed disk just for temporary files?

I think gfi need to update their best practice kb to reflect this.
