Hello: I'm running MailSecurity 10 and MailEssentials 12 on 2003 SBS SP1 with Exchange 2003 SP2. Like a similar active post, I'm also not able to download updates for my, virus defs., mail exploit engine, trojan/exe engine, etc. Tried to change the gfi server and did not work. Also, don't know if it's related but, I also had to disable my DNS Blacklist checking in MailEssentials because exchange was hanging with thousands of mail stuck in the cue. Once I disabled "check whether the sending mail server is on..." in essentials, it freed up. When I click on 'test' in the DNS box, it does fail.

ok today I was calling GFI to complain about this and found some of the great logs that GFI has :) GFI tries to contact two websites http://update.gfi.com and http://update.gfisoftware.com . Try contacting those two websites via IE. if you get a login and password prompt then your DNS is not the issue. I wasnt getting the login and password and soon discovered that after doing an ipconfig /flushdns I finally got thru it appears GFI is doing round robin or changing their ips frequently.

Hi; we also have a problem with the updates. I checked our server's DNS from a command prompt with ipconfig /displaydns; it didn't show any GFI entries, so I'm guessing that may not be the problem for us. However: Our updates start to fail at 6pm, UK time. They fail intermittently at other random times, but from 6pm every update fails. Then, sometime between 7pm and 8pm they just suddenly start working again. This problem seems to have started on Saturday 10th. Just thought I'd share what I've noticed.

I wasn't able to connect via IE, but after dns flushed I was able to finally. Really slow. I think it may be timing out. I was able to ping both of them before the flush, so I'm not sure. I'm still getting failed messages.

pinging before the flush is nothing in my opinion. GFI is doing something with their IPS. today is another new one. someone must be ddosing them or something. they are changing them too often i had a problem again today but I issued the flushdns and that should do it. GFI has to tell us whats going on. something isnt setup correctly on their side

I would also like to add to the list of people experiencing problems with updates for MailSecurity components. Connections to http://update.gfi.com and http://update.gfisoftware.com are currently taking around 2 minutes. Presumably MailSecurity updates timeout, and then send the failure email. Running NSLOOKUP update.gfi.com and NSLOOKUP update.gfisoftware.com reveal the IP addresses. Are all IPs working? Is GFI doing work on the servers? Notice that updates don't fail everytime, but it did get much worse over the weekend. Can someone from GFI let us all know what is happening? Rod Haanappel

I would be very interested in an update to this as well. Throughout the last couple of weeks we've been having failures mixed in with successes. Sometimes, like today, a string of failures for a couple of hours. Very odd. Just to make sure it was not on my end I made sure there were no blocking ACL's on the routers, as well as any odd HTTP Inspection Modules on my firewall. They all look clean. Can we please get a resolution to this? I really don't like missing anti-virus updates for obvious reasons. Thanks! Darius

Thank you for your feedback, We are currently still investigating this issue. Can you please clarify if you are constantly getting this issue, or is this occuring sporadically?

Sporadically. For instance, yesterday from 12:50PM to 2:15PM EST they failed, then without any intervention they started working again at 3:02 PM EST. Today, they just started failing at 1:26 PM EST. Thanks, Darius

I seem to get them at different times during the day. For instance, this morning I received one at 10:13 and then again at 10:56. This was for the Trojan and Executable Scanner. Norman was failing a bit more sporatically with a couple days inbetween error messages.
