disclaimer NOT ignoring replies - posting on every email

Status: offline 		Our domain disclaimer is posting on every email reply. I realise it's not meant to do this. We are running ME12 build 20080623 on Windows Server 2003 R2 with Exchange 2003.

What could be causing the disclaimer to post on every reply? I have tested this with Hotmail, Gmail, Lycos and Outlook 2003 and it posts a disclaimer on every reply.

I noticed that Hotmail removes the spaces in between the lines in the HTML <p> as the email is coming back from Hotmail (reply) with the disclaimer formatted differently. Could Mail Essentials be trying to read the disclaimer on the reply and ignoring it because it's formatted differently and then posting again? Or is it just looking for a match on text assess whether it should post the disclaimer?

If this is the case I am thinking of putting white image spacers in between each line to force the lines apart and hopefully achieve consistency which perhaps ME might prefer when it compares the disclaimer. Is this taking it too far?

I've searched these forums and I can see others having the same issue but each thread doesn't include a solution so I'm not sure if there is a solution.

P.s We are also using Gfi Mail Archiver & Gfi Mail Security - could this have any effect?

If you go to ..\Program Files\GFI\MailEssentials\DebugLogs you should have a log labelled disclaimer.gfi_log.txt.  The bottom of the log will show the most recent message sent through.  If you can send a message to your hotmail account with a disclaimer, reply from hotmail back to yourself and then reply back to hotmail (where you would have two disclaimers) what does it show in this log?  You should be able to see if GFI MailEssentials is parsing the disclaimer and determining if the message needs a new disclaimer or not.

As requested I've sent an email to my hotmail, replied back, and then sent it back to hotmail again. Here are the results of the disclaimer.gfi_log.txt. Forgive me for pasting too much of it here, it was rather long. I see some errors - could this be our problem perhaps?

Basically, the disclaimer module searches for each word in the disclaimer and looks for them in the e-mail.  With text only messages, this is simple as there are no formatting tags that get in our way.  However, with HTML formatted emails, when the disclaimer wraps to a new line, sometimes the software cannot detect the disclaimer properly.

Our developers have indicated that this is by design, and are aware that this will result in multiple disclaimers being tagged to e-mails.  There is, at this time, nothing else we can do to prevent this from happening.

Thanks for getting back to me. This is a shame but I realise the difficulties of trying to design around HTML. We will look at changing our disclaimer to text.

It would have been good to have realised this earlier though. Perhaps you could make this clearer in documentation. The documentation for the disclaimer module is minimal as it is.

I'll check to see if anyone has added this sugested improvement to the next version of ME. If nobody has, I'll suggest it myself.
