We've a server (FMNetworks11) which sends 500+/= & Receives 750+ faxes per day.
The send method is sending Word documents as attachments to the EmailGateway.
Although we try our best, occasionally a user may send a document which may mess things up a bit (e.g. ReadOnly/Protected etc).. Following this FM MTA completely dies preventing other faxes being sent/delivered to the recipient.
Is there any method to prevent this happening? I remember reading something about a Macro that can be used to prevent prompts within Microsoft Word - I could never find the information regarding this.
OR maybe...
Is there another way this can be done?
I know you can print directly to the FaxMaker print which I believe parses the said image which determines who to and from the faxe is being sent. Is there any way to convert these documents PRIOR being sent to the server. e.g So I send a .FAX as an attachment - this would then mean any conversion errors appear on the client rather than the server?
Either way - I "will" require programmtic control either through Email (which i currently have) OR an API so I can control the flow of faxes.

JoeH,
Using FAXmaker it is possible to convert the documents to FAX on the client machine.
This can be done by having the user print an attachment to the FAXmaker printer. When this is done, Outlook or the FAXmaker FAX Message Form will pop up allowing the user to enter the details of the recipient.
This will avoid having problems generated by docuemnt conversion of the FAX server machine.

Thanks for your reply Patrizia.
The FaxMaker printer I presume is installed locally on the user's workstation? You mention it can launch an Outlook form or the FaxMaker form - is this option controllable (I'd actually like it to use a custom-Outlook form rather than a standard new message).
If not - can the document simply be printed and a file created (with a predictable filename/location).
I'd really like to take the Conversion role(especially Microsoft Word Documents) away from the server.

Hi JoeH,
Printing to FAXmaker can open either Outlook or the FAXmaker FAX Message form. It is not possible to open a custom-Outlook form.
It is not possible to only create a file. However a file will actually be created in the User's Temp directory. Alternatively, the FAX attachment can be coppied from the Standar Outlook form to the custom form, before being sent.

excellent this sounds similar to my issue. Conversion was failing at the server due to a read-only yes/no/cancel prompt when the server would try to open a 'read-only suggested' enabled .doc file. I suppose it's still best to print to the faxmaker printer driver on the client system to take doc conversion out of the hands of the server.
