I'm using the new version 6, when i am running a scan on windows xp machine without any service packs - it only gives me the option to deploy service pack 2.

What about service pack 1 ?

do a search in the forums for this, but you have 2 options:

1. Custom Patch
2. Modify the products.xml and remove SP2

I've done a search on the forum for service pack & version 6 but could not find any results.

Custom Patch is an option but difficult if I do not know which PC has SP1 or not ?

Also do not want to modify the products.xml because we will roll out service pack 2 a t a later date after software issues have been resolved.

I'm a bit surprised that NSS does not give you the option to install both service packs on a pc.

I haven't looked at it in LNSS 6, but in 5 you could do the following:

Select machines based on OS (in this case Windows XP Gold only) and push it that way as a custom patch.

Otherwise, make a backup copy of hte products.xml and just modify it. Those are the only 2 options I'm aware of to push SP1a of XP.

Thanks for the reply eric, i will try either option. How can I avoid XP1 asking the user for input - i.e can I do a silent install without any prompts ?

Cheers

yes you can do a silent install, but I couldn't tell you waht the switches are off the top of my head, you'll have to hit MS site and look it up.

In completion of what Eric said.
You can use deployment filters to push patches only on XP Gold machines: "Deploy custom software" tool -> "Options" panel -> "General" tab -> "Computer filters..." button -> "Operating systems" tab...
This assume you have scanned first those computers (within range, domain etc.) before applying this procedure.
