Hello,
Okay we have no MX record for our exchange server, a port is simply forwarded from an "A" host record on a public DNS server (dont ask me why).
Now I want to setup mail essentials on a seperate server. All I would have to do is forward the SMTP port to the Mail Essentials Server correct?
Or do we need an MX record created? Everything works fine just with port forwarding so far.

Are you getting emails at an SMTP server which has an MX record configured for your domain (e.g. your isp)? If that is the case, you just need to ask the ISP to start routing the emails to the machine running MailEssentials.

Hello,
I found out we do have an mx record, but its pointing to a machine that doesnt exist anymore by NAME, the IP however resolves to our IP for our mail server. Im going to be fixing it up. After installing GFI mail was going out, but not coming in. Once an MX record was installed locally and the domain switched to our external domain, all was running smooth.
GFI exposed alot of prexisting problems on our network, it is a good product even though I lost alot of hair over it.
