GFI will make available new virus updates nearly immediatly after they are made available by the virus scanning engine vendors. Recently BitDefender have been updating their virus updates more often (nearly once every 2 hours). That will cause more frequent updates for MailSecurity.

This will help fight virus outbreaks.

If you want to have less frequent virus updates, you can configure MailSecurity to check less often for new virus updates. This can be done from the MailSecurity configuration -> Virus Scanning Engines -> properties of the virus scanning engine -> Updates tab.

Well the last time BitDefender started updating like mad was right before they sent out the update that caused everyone's e-mail to be detected as a virus, but so far all these updates look good. I certainly have no objection to them pushing new updates as soon as they write in detection for more badware, as long as they're good defs.

Indeed Bill,

That's why I queried it here. Everything looks to be OK (at the moment).

Anyone else getting a fair old whack of MyDoom.M occurrences today?

Our BitDefender files have been updating hourly since Friday, April 8th. Is this normal?

Thanks,
Dave

No. Just been seeing Mytob.E and MyDoom.I, but not in great quantities.
