Having been notified of WebMonitor replacing DownloadSecurity, I have tested WebMonitor and found that it doesn't have the most administrator friendly feature of DSEC - quarantining blocked downloads. WebMon simply blocks all downloads unless the domain is excluded, but this leaves our system too open for my liking as I'm sure a lot of sys admins out there would agree.

Until WebMon has this feature added I definately won't be migrating to it. My DSEC maintenance runs out in a couple of months, and unless GFI add this feature I will be forced to find an alternative solution that isn't as relaxed as WebMon.

I'm a big supporter of GFI but i have to agree that this is a terrible change for the worse. I depend on that kind of quarantining to help retrieve work-related files for users from sites I can't anticipate adding to the whitelist.

I'm sticking with DS for now.

I agree with Kgb2005 and Joe Stern, even if I've encountered less unexplained bugs with Webmonitor during two weeks of use than with DS, there's a lot of options and customizations which have disappear : Quarantine, Logs, Rules, Customization of Trojan scanner, Archive Scanner... So I'm asking : "Why ?"

Just wanted to put my two cents in as well. We are currently using Surf Control to provide http content filetering. Though SC isn't perfect it does the job we want it to do.

Download Security was a focused product that worked incredibly well for us. I would love to see a new version of this product based on the new enhancements to Mail Security released.

Please bring back download security!

Here is my list of features of DownloadSecurity that are not in WebMonitor but are needed:

1. Quarantine of blocked files.
2. Notifications for blocked files.
3. Logs

I am very disappointed with the product, espically since they are charging the same amount for less features. Additionaly, nothing from yahoo.com should be depeneded upon for a corporate environment, and as such the domain blocking part is worthless.

Also another vote for quarantined downloads. I'm not sure whether webmon suffers from the same whitelist problem as download security, but updating the whitelist required a restart of the firewall service before it took effect. At least with DS the file could be retrieved out of quarantine, greatly reducing the need to update the whitelist.

Hi,

Currently the quarantining feature is being worked on. Currently, we do not have any release dates for this feature, however it is expected to be included in a future build of WebMonitor soon.

GFI WebMonitor for ISA Server has been designed from the ground up to offer added functionality and speed to the features previously offered via GFI DownloadSecurity. This is because GFI felt that current and future technical requirements to perform web monitoring, security and access control required a full re-design of the product engine.

GFI DownloadSecurity used to share the GFI MailSecurity file processing scanning engine and focused on the administration and access control of downloaded files. Yet, web access and file download monitoring has an even larger scope in that it deals with any traffic going through the ISA Server. With this in mind, it was decided to create a new engine that was specifically aimed at web traffic processing and web abuse control; this forms GFI WebMonitor 3's chief component.

Apart from this, GFI WebMonitor offers various other advantages over the product it replaces, including:
* Improved processing speed.
* Simultaneous connection support.
* Support for ISA Server arrays.
* Silent download monitoring (the Download Progress window requiring user intervention is discontinued).
* Real file type detection processing with only the first set of downloaded bytes of the file (bandwidth saving).

Such changes were only possible through a totally re-engineered system.
