hi, we are interested in testing faxmaker in our company (~100 user). but we haven't a supportet fax/isdn/modem here. is it possible (just for testing) to use a standard pc with windows xp (i know its supportet) and an standard AVM PCI ISDN card (no active b/c 1/2/3/4)? we want test it only with 1-2 people, so 1 or 2 lines are ok.

HeAdmin, That sounds great. GFI Faxmaker will work with your test setup up! The device you have is a Supported device. So it should work well. Also the eval will give you enough users and lines to do the testing you would like. Thank you.

great! but i wonder, because your knowledgebase says (http://kbase.gfi.com/showarticle.asp?id=KBID002459) the supported avm isdn cards are the AVM B1 and C2/C4. but our is a standard, non-active pci card.... but we'll give it a try....

Hi Headmin, it depends exaclty what card you will be using. Are you talking about the "fritzcard" when you mean a "non-active" card?

Passive cards like the Fritzcard use the host's processing capabilities and are therefore much more unpredictable than active cards. It really depends on what other applications and especially telephony devices and services are installed on your test machine. Ideally, we would want you to use an active card so you can properly evaluate the performance of faxmaker. Faxmaker will almost certainly be held back by the Fritzcard. If you still want to go ahead with it, make sure you select the drivers for AVM B1 V3 from the line configuration Menu in faxmaker. These should work 9 out of 10 times and are the closest available to the actual Fritzcard Drivers. There is one thing to consider though: We do not support such a setup. And given that we give you free technical support during your evaluation period, I think that would be a bit of a waste.

thank you. performance is not important during testing. some people just want to see how it works. if they are pleased, we will buy a HP server machine with an active isdn card. the test machine is a standard pc with a fresh windows 2003 server installation without any other active services. technical support will not be necessary.
