This is the release build of GFI EventsManager 8.1. New features within this release include:

  • Improved scanning of Windows Events to reduce the network bandwidth required and reduce the time required to collect Windows Events

Changes within this release include:
  • FIXED: Licensing issue when upgrading from an older version of GFI EventsManager
  • FIXED: Some W3C events are missing the file name in the GFI EventsManager Events Browser. This also affected reporting on these events
  • FIXED: Problem importing a specific Cisco MIB
  • FIXED: In certain situations, collection of events stops. The Scan Jobs are queued but the jobs are not processed.
  • FIXED: Error when generating reports which included data for Windows NT security events
  • FIXED: Problem reading configuration settings caused by conflict with FIPS compliant algorithm policies.
  • FIXED: Event collection stops when reading W3C files which are incorrectly formatted FIXED: GFI EventsManager is not able to retrieving Windows Events from certain machines.
  • FIXED: The same event may be collected and processed more than once.
  • FIXED: Problem retrieving SQL Server audit configuration settings for server groups
  • FIXED: Rule name is displayed as ‘N/A’ in alerts for events which are not archived
  • FIXED: Memory leak in Syslog collector
  • FIXED: Composed filters are not imported correctly from GFI EventsManager version 7.0 to GFI EventsManager version 8.1.
  • FIXED: Import of the default factory settings does not affect event processing rules which have been amended or disabled.
  • FIXED: Database backend is not upgraded during an upgrade from GFI EventsManager version 7.0 to Gfi EventsManager 8.1

Known Issues:
  • On Windows XP SP3, SQL Audit will not work.
The Auditing feature in GFI EventsManager requires the SQL Object Management Tools which in turn require MSXML6. On Windows XP SP3, you would need to manually re-install / repair MSXML6, otherwise SQL Object Management does not recognise that it is installed. MSXML6 can be downloaded from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=993c0bcf-3bcf-4009-be21-27e85e1857b1
  • Installation of prerequisites fail unexpectedly in certain situations after they are automatically downloaded during the installation of GFI EventsManager.
  • Upgrading from a previous version could trigger “database backend failed to update” error.
  • Should you encounter this error, you would need to re-configure the database settings manually from the GFI EventsManager console.
  • Some pre-defined filters in the Windows Events Browser do not show windows events where the category, user name and possibly other fields are not in English. This is caused when the Windows operating system on which they where generated is not English.
Currently, you would need to to manually translate the strings from the filters which use these fields into the desired language
  • SNMP traps are not always processed when TCP is used.
  • The filters defined in the Events Browser, the default event processing rules and reports which make use of the Windows Event ‘Category’ field can only process the category field for events created on an English operating system.
