What's new in GFI MailSecurity 10: GFI MailSecurity for Exchange/SMTP now offers the following new features and improvements. - Support for a new anti-virus engine - Grisoft AVG: Grisoft AVG have various certifications and various awards including but not limited to ICSALabs, WestCoastLabs Checkmark, TÜV Monitored Virus Protection and VB100% awards.
- Enable easy quarantine folder monitoring through RSS feeds: RSS feeds are now available with GFI MailSecurity 10, automatically notifying administrators of quarantined email through their RSS reader. Administrators can monitor their quarantine without having to login to the quarantine console; instead, administrators are notified of quarantined email through RSS feeds. This ability significantly reduces the amount of time administrators spend by automatically updating them on email quarantine status.
- Quarantine Directory Harvest Protection: The new Quarantine Directory Harvest Protection will automatically delete any inbound quarantine emails whose recipient email addresss doesn't exist in Active Directory/LDAP ensuring that the quarantine store is clean.
- Introduced Virus Scanning Optimizations: It is now possible to configure some optimizations related to virus scanning in the 'Virus Scanning Engines' node. One optimization which can be configured involves stopping virus scanning once a configurable number of virus scanners have determined that an item contains a virus.
- Updated HTML sanitization to handle emerging trends in HTML threats: The GFI MailSecurity HTML sanitization has been updated to offer improved protection against malicious HTML making use of malformed Cascading Style Sheets (CSS).
- Quarantine Search Folders Auto-Purging capabilities: It is now possible to configure a Time-To-Live interval, in days, for items in the GFI MailSecurity quarantine. Items in the quarantine which satisfy the criteria of a particular Search Folder and have been in the quarantine for a longer time than the Time-To-Live configured for that Search Folder will automatically be purged from the quarantine.

Changes within build 20060721 include: - NEW: Fresh installations of GFI MailSecurity now ship with a set of pre-defined Content Checking and Attachment Checking rules.
- NEW: Virus Scanning Optimizations are enabled by default on fresh installations, with the default setting being that virus scanning of an item is stopped once two virus scanning engines have detected a virus in that item.
- FIXED: Processing of an email failed when the email infringed a large number of rules and resulted in a long threat report. Such emails are saved in the MailSecurity\FailedMails directory.
- FIXED: Occasionally an outbound email was saved to the MailSecurity\FailedMails directory and the recipients of the email received a notification that an error occurred at the sender's messaging system during the virus scanning stage.
- FIXED: The recipient list displayed in quarantine approval forms was not separator delimited.
- FIXED: When using an extended evaluation license key, the license status for the McAfee and Kaspersky virus scanning engines was incorrectly shown as expired as from day 1 in the product configuration interface, which consequently did not allow the user to manually trigger updates for these engines. However, the McAfee and Kaspersky modules would still be scanning for viruses and downloading updates.
- FIXED: In certain scenarios licensed users failed to be counted correctly, manifesting itself in a 'Failed to load GFI MailSecurity license information' message being displayed on each page in the product configuration interface.
- FIXED: When MailSecurity was running on a non-evaluation license key and the number of licensed users was exceeded, the product continued scanning for a further 15 days to allow time for the user to regularize the license. In keeping consistency with this behaviour, the Realtime Monitor page now indicates that emails are still processed normally, rather than reporting the product as being expired.
- FIXED: The list of Distinguished Names (DN) in the Directory Harvesting tab of the Quarantine Options node was lost when the focus was changed or the product's configuration interface was closed and opened again.
- FIXED: Restarting the ContentSecurity AutoUpdater Service while it was downloading an update could result in the service failing to restart or downloading of updates to fail after restart of the service.
- FIXED: User based rules (such as Content Checking or Attachment Checking rules) did not work correctly after using the MailSecurity 8 upgrade tool shipped with MailSecurity 10 to migrate the configuration data of a previous MailSecurity 8 installation which was installed in SMTP user mode

Changes within build 20070117 include: - NEW: Introduced support for 64-bit Microsoft Operating Systems/64-bit IIS SMTP. Please note that only x64 64-bit platforms are supported; AMD64 and Intel 64 (formerly known as EM64T). IA-64 Itanium 64-bit platforms are not supported.
- NEW: Introduced support for Microsoft Exchange Server 2007. Please note that only the 64-bit production version of Exchange 2007 is supported; the 32-bit test version is not supported.
- NEW: Introduced McAfee V5 anti-virus engine out of the box. This was previously available through automatic updates and only in legacy mode (without the ability to make full use of the enhancements in the new engine).
- NEW: General performance improvements to the GFI MailSecurity scanning components.
- NEW: Performance improvements to the utilization of the BitDefender anti-virus engine.
- NEW: Performance improvements to the GFI MailSecurity Trojan and Executable Scanner.
- NEW: Performance improvements related to the retrieval of user information from Active Directory incurred by user based Content Checking and Attachment Checking rules.
- NEW: Introduced utilization of the Norman Decompression and Compression Library.
- NEW: Introduced utilization of new MIME parsing technology which better serves the needs of GFI MailSecurity.
- NEW: Retrieval of user information from entire Active Directory forests (as opposed to a single tree in a forest) is now supported.
- NEW: Improved robustness against failures during processing. In the event of failed processing for 500 consecutive emails (causing them to be saved into the mailsecurity\failedmails directory instead of being delivered) the GFI MailSecurity Scan Engine will now terminate and restart automatically. This allows recovery from any possible stability issues causing the failures, making up for improved robustness of the scan engine.
- NEW: Improved robustness against failures during updates. Introduced a hang prevention mechanism such that in the event of a hang during the unload/reload stage of a manual or automatic update the GFI MailSecurity Scan Engine will terminate after 10 minutes and restart. This allows recovery from such events rather than causing emails to accumulate in the email server's queues.
- NEW: Introduced 'subject' column in the web based quarantine management user interface.
- NEW: Introduced 'Delete & Notify' and 'Strip & Approve' actions in the web based quarantine management user interface.
- NEW: A number of minor updates have been made to the web based configuration user interface. Among other, a number of icons/graphics have been changed, the root node has been renamed from 'Console Root' to 'GFI MailSecurity', and a node has been added with information about the newly available GFI MailSecurity 10 ReportPack.
- NEW: Updated Content-Type of responses returned to requests for the GFI MailSecurity Quarantine RSS Feeds to 'application/rss+xml' when it is detected that the User-Agent is Microsoft Internet Explorer 7, enabling the latter to recognize the feeds as such.
- NEW: Updated product manual so as to reflect newly introduced support for 64-bit Microsoft Operating Systems/64-bit IIS SMTP and Microsoft Exchange Server 2007.
- FIXED: When installing GFI MailSecurity on Microsoft Windows Server 2003 and the ASP.NET Web Service Extension is disabled the GFI MailSecurity installation will now issue a warning and prompt the user to enable the Web Service Extension.
- FIXED: Following a reboot of the machine on which GFI MailSecurity is installed, intialization of the GFI MailSecurity Scan Engine fails and all emails are saved into the mailsecurity\failedmails directory instead of being delivered. This issue has only been observed on particular installations of Microsoft Windows 2000. Fix previously released as MSEC10_PATCH_20060727_01.
- FIXED: Through the introduction of new MIME parsing technology, a number of issues related to MIME parsing have been fixed, including (i) failure to process emails with more than one Content-Type header, with the emails in question being saved in the mailsecurity\failedmails directory instead of being delivered (ii) possible corruption of email headers when encoded headers are present (iii) possible failures processing large emails (in the order of 100MB), with the emails in question being saved in the mailsecurity\failedmails directory instead of being delivered. Fix previously released as MSEC10_PATCH_20060915_01.
- FIXED: Through the introduction of new MIME parsing technology, issues related to high memory and CPU resource consumption when processing certain emails (such as large emails in the order of 100MB) have been resolved.
- FIXED: Issues with multi-volume RAR and ZIP archives being saved in the mailsecurity\failedmails directory instead of being delivered have been resolved.
- FIXED: Under conditions of prolonged heavy load, large numbers of queries to Active Directory by the GFI MailSecurity Scan Engine were in some cases exhausting the number of free sockets on the machine, causing email processing failures and resulting in emails being saved into the mailsecurity\failedmails directory rather than being delivered.
- FIXED: A stability issue related to the retrieval of user information from Active Directory by the GFI MailSecurity Scan Engine was resolved. This issue would manifest itself under prolonged heavy load, resulting in processing of all emails by the GFI MailSecurity Scan Engine to fail and all emails being saved into the mailsecurity\failedmails directory instead of being delivered.
- FIXED: A stability issue related to the automatic user list population feature of GFI MailSecurity when installed in SMTP user mode was resolved. This issue could cause the GFI MailSecurity Scan Engine to crash when a user is automatically added to the user list while the scan engine is under load.
- FIXED: A stability issue related to the uninitialization of the GFI MailSecurity Scan Engine was resolved. This issue could cause the GFI MailSecurity Scan Engine to crash during uninitialization.
- FIXED: When an Active Directory group is added to the exclude list of a Content Checking or Attachment Checking rule, members of that group will not be excluded should an email triggering the rule in question be destined for two or more members of that group. The issue does not manifest itself in cases when the email is destined for only one member of the group. Fix previously released as MSEC10_PATCH_20070124_01.
- FIXED: When an Active Directory user having a single email address is added to the exclude list of a Content Checking or Attachment Checking rule, that user will not be excluded should an email triggering the rule be destined for him/her.
- FIXED: When the GFI ContentSecurity Auto-Updater service is stopped/restarted while downloading of an update is in progress, this was erroneously detected as a failure condition and notification was being sent that a failure occurred while downloading an update.
- FIXED: An issue in the GFI ContentSecurity Auto-Updater service has been fixed where if one or more files in a downloaded update failed to extract, the update was still applied without those files and a successful update reported.
- FIXED: Reduced resource consumption by the tracing components associated with the GFI MailSecurity Attendant Service.
- FIXED: When configuring GFI MailSecurity to make use of Microsoft SQL Server as the repository for its reporting data, the use of certain characters in the password could result in a failure with the error message 'could not connect to database' being displayed. Fix previously released as MSEC10_PATCH_20070221_01.
- FIXED: When IIS response compression is enabled, all items downloaded through the web based quarantine management user interface were being assigned the filename "itempage.aspx".
- FIXED: When GFI MailSecurity is configured to send email based Quarantine Action Forms to the administrator when an email is quarantined, multiple recipients are displayed without a separator in the Quarantine Action Forms.
- FIXED: When GFI MailSecurity is configured to send email based notifications to the administrator and/or user when an email is quarantined, a maximum of 4 recipients are displayed in the notification with no indication that the original email was destined to more recipients.
- FIXED: The GFI MailSecurity Troubleshooter displays the message 'The support folder cannot be cleared. Please wait for a few minutes and run the troubleshooter again' if on startup the mailsecurity\troubleshooter\support folder exists and contains a file with the read-only attribute set.

Changes within build 20071129 include: - UPDATE: Implemented support for Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 SP1.
- UPDATE: Norman Decompression does not attempt to brute-force crack passwords in password-protected archives and skips to next files in archive (i.e. does not abandon archive scan).
- FIX: Fixed source of crash in Norman Decompression when processing highly recursive, large archives.
- UPDATE: Troubleshooter has been updated so that information on Exchange 2007 can be retrieved for troubleshooting.
- FIX: Refreshing the web based configuration user interface pages very frequently used to cause a memory leak.
- FIX: Quarantine would not work on Turkish OS due to language discrepancies when converting an uppercase 'I' to a lowercase 'i'.
- FIX: Changed the way .NET remoting is initialized so that GFI MailSecurity agent can coexist with GFI MailEssentials agents when both GFI MailSecurity and GFI MailEssentials are installed on the same machine.
- FIX: Fixed a special condition where mail can loop between GFI MailSecurity and GFI MailEssentials when both products are installed. This loop will happen if GFI MailEssentials is configured to forward spam mails to an alternate address, and if spam mail is sent, which is also breaching a MSEC rule.
- FIX: Exploit Engine fails on "Object CODEBASE file execution (High alert)" exploit and send the e-mails to the 'FailedMails' folder.
- FIX: In the Quarantine UI, Rescan/Approve/Delete items would rescan/approve/delete all items in folder even those not visible when a filter is applied.
- FIX: In some occasions, GFI MailSecurity notifications were ending up in the Quarantine.
- FIX: In some occasions, garbled text was being inserted in the email body part when converting RTF text to HTML text.
- FIX: In some cases, the MSEC scan engine would appear to 'hang' when attempting to unload plugins to apply an update, and the email queue would grow. This was caused by a bug in the handling of a particular scan error while processing emails, which was preventing the MSEC scan engine from unloading the plugins in a timely manner to apply the updates

Changes within Service Release 20080324 include: - FIXED: Fixed memory leaks manifested when displaying the Web UI Real-time Monitor
- FIXED: During Content-Checking, international characters in words were sometimes treated as whitespace delimiters and consequently content-checking rules were processing whole words as fragmented words.
- FIXED: Evaluation Expiry date inside the License page and the Anti Virus pages in the Web UI were not matching.
