I'm getting ready to test out MailArchiver for Exchange using Exchange 2003 & AD. I've been using the Exchange option to "Archive all messages sent or received by mailboxes on this store" for several months now. At this point I've collected several GB of messages in my designated archive mailbox.
Before I proceed with the install I have a couple of questions that I didn't find answers to in the FAQ or knowledgebase. I was wondering if at the moment I tell MailArchiver to start polling on my Exchange archive mailbox if it will begin spewing several gigabytes of collected messages to my SQL database, deleting them from my existing archive? Or will it only pick up new messages going forward? If the former, what options do I have if I decide for some reason not to use MailArchiver? Can I get my messages back to Exchange from my SQL database? On the other hand, if it only picks up new messages and I decide MailArchive is the answer (which I'm assuming will be the case), how do I get my existing archive extracted to my SQL database since I'd no longer need them in my Exchange archive?
Thanks,
Ultimus

Yes, MailArchiver will pickup all these messages. Just be patient to wait... By default MailArchiver will collect messages in 200 items batches at 1 minute schedule. Such configuration is used to prevent extra load on Exchange server but can be changed (please contact support referencing this post)
MailArchiver removes processed messages from archiving location.
MailArchiver does not support reversing of messages to Exchange store

Thanks, Rodion. That's what I needed to know.
A couple of follow-up questions...
Can I start and stop the polling process at my discretion? For example, I might want to "empty" my Exchange archive mailbox every so often, and then let it build up again. Sort of a periodic dump to the MailArchiver.
Also, are the existing messages moved from the Exchange archive mailbox to the MailArchiver in any predictable order, e.g. oldest messages to newest?
Thanks!
Ultimus

It is possible to configure MailArchiver to poll archive location every N minutes. As I've said already you need to contact support directly.
There is no specific order being set by MailArchiver, but usually newset messages are archived first.
You should also be aware of up to 3 minutes delay of messages appearing in UI caused by caching and maintenance subsystems
