Running version 8 on a W2K Pro machine to an Exchange 5.5 server in Gateway mode. The user list does not seem to be updating (synchronizing) even though I've pushed the update period to 1 hour.
I see no errors and nothing in the Event Viewer. Can there be a permissions issue with the user that sits at the workstation?
I would love to be able to manually force a sync and/or manually edit the user database. I've seen the other posts related to the userlist.udb so I don't have high hopes about editing it.
Any suggestions about where to look next will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Mike,
Note that if the users are to be retrieved from Exchange 5.5, the Exchange Administrator (configuration) must be installed on the MailSecurity machine.

BINGO! The Exchange admin WAS installed on this machine, but the normal user's logon didn't have any access rights to the folder. Granted Everyone normal access and it's now showing all the current mailboxes.
Thanks so much! Mike
ps. But now that I look at the userlist.udb I see that it has a Last Modified Date of yesterday at 1:32 pm and is 10k larger than the .bak file. So now I wish I'd looked at it before I did this change to know if it was already updated or if maybe it was held in "limbo" and then written to the .udb immediately after changing the permissions. The date would indicate it actually changed yesterday. if so, then I still don't know what fixed it. Oh, well.

i have to install MailSecurity on a machine in our DMZ and i don't want to put it in our NT-Domain. So how can i install the Exchange Admin in order to synchronize our valid Recipients with the Exchangeserver ? the Exchange setup say's i have to be a member of a domain... :-(
thank you

meanwhile i read that MailSecurity uses DAPI to synchronize with Exchange Directory.
what can i do to give MS DAPI without installing the Exchange Administrator program ? Are there simply some DLL's to register ?
please help, because MS isn't much useful without valid Recipients.
thank you.

problem solved. i temporarily made the gateway a member of the NT-Domain in order to install the Exchange-Admin.
Then i installed MS with the Exchange 5.5 option and user-replication worked fine.
But now my next problem is:
how can i stop the gateway or MS sending NDR's if an invalid mail-address was sended to ??? it was my intention to stop NDR's and therefore i installed a gateway and GFI MS ! But now there are still NDR's ! How can i prevent the gateway from sending NDR's if the recipient is not valid ?????
thank you Thomas
