I have downloaded and installed the evaluation version. Archiving seems to work fine, but I can't get the SMTP Server configuration right. I have tried using localhost, the IP address, the host name, and the fully qualified name (mail.domain.com), all with Port 25, all both with and without authentication. I get the 6702 event only when I use the fully qualified name. Archiver is installed on the same machine as Exchange 2003. I verified that I can telnet into localhost:25 and send email. Is there anything else I should check or try? --Doug

FresnoDoug, In the configuration of GFI MailArchiver 5 change your smtp server to reflect the IP of your SMTP server. After doing this restart your GFI MailArchiver 5 services and attempt to send the test message again.

That didn't work. It turns out the problem was with MailEssentials, sort of. I'm not sure how it got there, but I am in the custom blacklist. I think on the theory that I am very unlikely to send myself email, especially SMTP email that would pass through GFI. The solution was to IP whitelist my mail server.
