I'm having problems getting the status monitor to run.

I have installed GFI Languard N.S.S version 6.0; Build: 20050114 on a server running Windows 2000 Server /SP4. Languard seems to run fine but I can't get the status monitor to run at all.

Any suggestions?

Is the GFI LanGuard attendant service running? I believe that needs to be started for the monitor to run correctly.

Can anybody explain to me why the LNSS Status monitor is not running on my server and what needs to be done to resolve this issue?!?

I need the LNSS status monitor so that see the status of scheduled scans and deployments. Without this functionality NSS is useless to me.

Please post more details about this problem. Does GFI LANguard N.S.S. 6.0 attendant service run under an administrative account?
On what OS is installed LNSS? What build number do you have?
Status monitor icon appear in task bar after windows logon? Can be Status monitor window opened?
Scheduled deployments and scheduled scans are functional, only Status Monitor has problems?

I have the Same problem.. I have a Windows 2KSP4 Server running LNSS 6.0 and the Status monitor Icon does not appear in the System Tray & the LNSS service is up and running. If I go to the start menu and start the Status Monitor the application just fires off and dies... No message in Event Viewer. If I install the software on a SP SP2 machine all is well.

Was reproduced a similar situation when Status monitor does not work, in some conditions, on Windows 2000 SP4. Was not fixed yet but will be probably in the next build.

I have also the same problem.
Statusmonitor doesn't start so scheduled scans wil not run if you close the languard main program.

Languard 6.0
build 20050420
Windows 2003 server
Languard attended service is "started" and have the right "logon as a service"

Who can help me out here ?

thanx !

Hi,

Although we had managed to reproduce the problem for a short period of time, we did not manage to troubleshoot the problem entirely. Therefore, we could not propertly address the problem.

Could you please enable debug for your LANguard NEtwork Security Scanner installation, reproduce the probelm, and send us a set of troubleshooting files?

To enable debug:
a) Close GFI LANguard N.S.S. and stop the 'GFI LANguard N.S.S. 5.0 attendant service'
b) Open Regedit (Start -> Run -> Type 'regedit' and press Enter)
c) Browse to [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\GFI\LNSS5\Config]
d) Change the 'debug' dword value from '0' to '1'
e) Restart the service stopped in (a)
f) Reproduce the issue.

The troubleshooter files can be generated from the LNSS Troubleshooter program which can be found in the LANguard Network Security Scanner 5.0 program group. Please answer the questions set by the troubleshooter as accurately as possible. Once the troubleshooter program is finished, it will create a number of files under the LANguard Network Security Scanner\Support directory. Please compress all files in one zip file and send it over to us for analysis.

Please address your correspondance to support@gfi.com.

Thank you.

lnssmonitor runs for me, if I am logged on local to the server console. If I logon using remote desktop, lnssmonitor does not run in that session. That's my experience with the tool.

I have the same issue.. How are you connecting to your server? Walk up or Remotely? I notice that the Status Monitor System Tray App does not show up when you are logged in via MS-RDP ( Term Svcs ) Try using VNC to access your Desktop..... That worked for me...

Have you already sent us your troubleshooting files? We still have not reproduced the problem, and the troubleshooting files will help us diagnose the problem further.

Thank you.

Don't know if it will help the situations that are being reported, but here's one thing I encountered. The servicer account I'm using for the attendant service is a domain admin, but because the server I run LGNSS on has audit data, my policy is to remove domain admin's from the local Administrator's group. I had to add the specific servicer account to the Administrator's group to get the Status Monitor to work.
