We have been using an older version of mail essential on an old SBS 2003 server and did a great job of keeping the spam away worked for years faultlessly. A little over a month ago I upgrade to SBS 2008 and immediately notice a dramacitc increase in the internet usage, basically it double. Took me a week to figure out that it was been chewed up by spam. I installed the latest evaluation verion of the mail essentials immediately the internet usage dropped, worked for maybe a week then internat usage doubled again. It still processed mail, still move spam to the correct folder, normal mail is coming and going however the internet usage from spam has gone back up. I can tell from our firewall its using port 25. I then played around with a few settings and got it going again for a about a day. Tried rebooting the firewall that also helped for a day until it went back up. Uninstalled reinstalled that didn't help. Just can't figure out why our mail usage is that high, according to the report we don't get that much spam maybe 300 spam mails a day. I know my firewall is blocking alot of it as it has a dnsblacklist which will drop any of thos connections. I want to try and get this resolved, I only have a few days left on the evalution, will happily buy the product but only if it works. One more thing, when it first stopped working correctly around the same time I had made some changes to the DNS, however I have i now changed them back.
