I realized, that the download of a file from the ISA server to the client is very slow. We use a Gigabit ethernet, however, after WebMonitor confirms that the check was successful and allows download, it takes a lot of time to get it (dependant on size). However, av. 400 Kbits. are much to slow!

What is the cause for this and what can be done about it?

Regards,
Hans

hans.schneider,

Can you ensure that no anti-virus software is scanning the WebMonitor folders?

Hi Patrizia,

the \GFI directory in progams is excluded from realtime scanning. However, testing it did not show a difference in speed.

Hans

Hi All,

We have the same problem. Our LAN works on Ethernet 100 for clients and 1 Gigabit/s for servers.
But when the AV Scan ends, the file transfer speed is *very* slow 300 kB/s instead of 11000 without WebMonitor.

Greetings.

Hi,

Can you explain further the process that you are following to determine the network speed?

The network speed will be low during the download itself, since the download will be held at WebMonitor while it is being downloaded. The connection is kept alive by sending a few packets each minute.

When the download is complete, and the file is scanned, the user can select to save the file if Webmonitor is configured to show the downloads page. When the user clicks on the Save button, the download should be fast, since the transfer will occur from ISA server to the user's pc.

Hi Nicks,

the process is understood, as you describe it. However, the problem is at this point:

""When the download is complete, and the file is scanned, the user can select to save the file if Webmonitor is configured to show the downloads page. When the user clicks on the Save button, the download should be fast, since the transfer will occur from ISA server to the user's pc.""

The transfer from ISA to the client is that slow! You can see transferrate and you experience "time".

Dieter

Hi Dieter,

Currently, the only thing that I can imagine which may be causing the problem is a slow network connection between ISA server and the users' pcs.

Should the problem persists, kindly send your troubleshooting files to forums@gfi.com, so we can troubleshoot the issue further.

Thank you.

Nicks,

direct transfer between ISA and clients is at least 10 times or more faster.

Hi,

I just tried and i got 10,1MB/sec download speed from WebMonitor.

What you are describing is usually observed when debug registry is turned ON.

With Kind Regards DavidFA

Hi,

To continue on David's post, can you try disabling debug as follows:

  Disable Debug mode
a) Stop all the Webmonitor and ISA Server Firewall services.
b) Open Regedit (Start -> Run -> Type 'regedit' and press Enter)
c) Browse to [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\GFI\Webmonitor]
d) Change the 'debug' dword value '0'
e) Restart the services stopped in (a)

Thank youl

Hi Nicks,

just to give a feedback, debugging is off. New installation has the same problem. Direct copying via LAN is much faster.

Hans

Hi,

Can you try downloading the same file directly from the ISA server machine? What is the speed you get on the same machine?

Would you have any desktop firewalls or similar software which can be scanning the downloads installed on the users' machines?

Hi Nicks,

When I copy the file from one of the isa servers to the client machine (in our case a terminal server) it goes with the speed you expect from a 100Mbit network.
I disabled our virusscanner software but it is still slow around 500 Kbits a second.

Regards,

Nitehawk

Hi Nitehawk,

Can you try downloading the same file from the internet directly? Try to do this from the ISA server machine? What is the speed you get?
