I tried setup a service monitor rule on a remote comptuer(W2K server) and get error message said "Service not found, service=[XXXX]". But I tried setup same rule on the local computer and it works fine. Any ideas?

Do you have permission to read the status of this remote service ?

Are you using the Service Name or the Display Name of the service? Actually, it should not make a difference but you may want to try and use the other.

Also, from the Windows services, are you able to connect to the scanned machine and list the services on the scanned machine?

JohnL,

Using GFI Network Server Monitor, you will not be able to list all the services running on the remote machine. GFI Network Server Monitor will check if a specific service is running or not.

Using the Windows Services applet, you can right click on the "Services (Local)" in the pane on the left hand side of the screen and select "Connect to another computer"

There are also WMI classes that will list the services on a remote machine.
