We are running GFI Network Monitor Server Manager version 5.5 on a Windows XP box. Has worked OK until 2 weeks ago. the SMTP Mailserver tasks have started to fail. They are OK when the box is rebooted, but start to fail within about 20 minutes. The PING tests to the same SMTP servers continue OK. Any help appreciated?
There is no indication in the eventvwr, Logs or on screen.
The 'Notification Settings' -> 'Send a test message' works OK after server reboot, but then starts to report error code :3 and unable to find SMTP server.
Extract from log file before reboot:-

11/12/2008 08:18:55 AM|0|Unknown|0|Unknown|99| n/a|E-mail notification failed, error=[Unable to connect to mail server. Check if the host is a valid SMTP mail server]

Extract after reboot:-
11/12/2008 08:32:56 AM|0|Unknown|0|Unknown|99| n/a|E-mail notification successfully sent, recipients=[a.user@domain]

Nothing indicating a problem between sucess and failure. SMTP server always operational. Any fault finding hints appreciated.

thought I had it sussed by stopping service and rebooting box. Nope still broken.
Extract from GFI LOG:-
11/12/2008 09:27:00 AM|0|Unknown|0|Unknown|99| n/a|E-mail notification successfully sent, recipients=[a.user@domain] subject=[subject]
11/12/2008 11:59:47 AM|1088523202|monitor name- (UK - Primary)|32|SMTP Mailserver|3| Failure|Unable to connect to host HOSTNAME:25

Any ideas where to look next?
No errors in eventvwr.

Another twist. When logged onto the box, after a reboot, all monitoring runs fine. As soon as I log off , only the SMTP monitoring fails. All other monitoring runs as expected. Any ideas? I can't see any way to make the SMTP monitoring run under a different account from the other monitoring.

No I don't get any error in the event viewer. the SMTP monitoring just stops. The only error is inthe GFI log as already posted.
