Repository Syntax error code - 27.Jul.2009 1:42:10 PM

Hello,

After upgrading to the latest version of LANGuard I just found with great displeasure that the upgrade reverted all of our non standard locations for patch repositories back to the default installation location. This was a small headache because it means I have to go back and change this on roughly 11 servers. When I went to change this to a shared directory on another server it came up with a error box that said LANGuard "Command line option syntax error. Type Command /? for Help.".

I can replicate this on all of our servers. It takes the changes but I'd imagine you wouldn't want your customers seeing an error every time they try to change this to a repository on a network share.

Thanks,

Mark

I have not heard of this error from anyone else yet  - I have also not been able to reproduce it. Will you open a support request online at http://support.gfi.com/Support/support.aspx?lcode=en so we can best assist you?

I think I have an idea why it is doing this. The server where this repository resides on has a - in the name of the server. Try to replicate it by using a server with a - in the name. We never had a problem with this in the previous versions.

Can you make an entry on the GFI Languard server in the C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts file to add a duplicate servername without the hypen and test this?

I see what your getting at so I tried it via IP address and still got the same error although it takes the change ... at least from what the GUI console shows. I guess that rules out the - being of any impact.

What path are you listing to the repository folder? Does it work if you try something like \\192.168.2.10\Repository ?

When I tried it via IP address exactly as you have shown I got the same syntax error. It is \\server-name\Repository$ . All of the servers that this is happening on are in another domain but have share and NTFS privlages to the share.

They were all able to connect to this share without any issues before the latest version of LANguard and after installing the new one it replaced this path with the default repository path which is located in the installation path. We don't want to do this because for 11 servers at 15 to 20 gigs it is wasteful. This is a large waste of disk space which comes at a premium when I could simply host the repository for them all in a single location. I would love to scan from a single location as well but because of varying issues from either customer choices in network configuration, issues opening remote registry, or WMI connectivity we have opted to scan and remediate from 1 server within each domain.

Can you map a network drive and point the repository to the "S:\Repository" folder instead?

I map to the drive perfectly fine without any issue and am able to browse the share within Explorer. I point GFI to the drive mapping and it returns the same LANguard Syntax error as soon as I hit apply. It is doing this across every installation.

I have been unable to reproduce any of these issues. Will you please open a support request online at http://support.gfi.com/Support/support.aspx?lcode=en so we can further investigate your environment?

I am getting this now also when I click on the Check for Updates button under program updates under configuration. I am going to attempt reinstalling to see if this will resolve this.

Still coming up with the same thing after a reinstall. I'll open a support ticket later after we deal with some of the other outstanding issues we are having with LANguard.
