Questions about defrag

Status: offline 		I'm somewhat of a noob here, so my apologies in advance if my questions are stupid sounding.

We have GFI Mail Archiver installed and its a fantastic product. As part of the normal maint. that we do on all our computers, we occassionally defrag the hard drives. Well, when I did this today on the machine running Mail Archiver, the defrag program was not able to do a whole lot, as it couldnt do anything with the SQL databases.

So how do I go about defragging the SQL databases? I've never done this before and have no clue how to do it.

It appears that what you are seeing is related to the defrag software being unable to lock the SQL data files.  In my research I found an article posted at http://www.sqlmag.com/Article/ArticleID/96983/sql_server_96983.html that may be able to help you out.
