Public Folder scanning problem after upgrade and patch - 25.Apr.2008 12:14:58 PM

Hello everyone. I am having a problem with my public folder scanning. It was working fine before the upgrade and patch, but is now not working.

If I test the configuration, it says it was successful. I have disabled and re-enabled the scanning, but still nothing. It doesn't work for the "This is Spam" and "This is legitimate email" folder.

Any suggestions?

All the spam in my folders are actual spam.

Still nothing happening. The spam has just been sitting there since last week. The amount is growing considerably as it is just sitting there.

Anyone have any suggestions?

kvetsch,

If you look in PFTrain.log in your DebugLogs directory do you see any errors here?  If you do not mind can you post a portion of this log?

No apparent errors. Just doesn't seem to be seeing the 1000+ emails in there now. This was from the most recent entries. I looked up to when the change occured and there are no errors. It just keeps going as usual, but not grabbing the emails.

kvetsch,

I would recommend renaming your current GFI AntiSpam Public Folders and go into GFI MailEssentials Configuration, right click on Anti-Spam and go to properties.  Once this is open click on Public Folder Scanning and click Scan Now.  This should create a new set of GFI AntiSpam Public Folders.  Once these folders are recreated move the messages from the renamed folders to the new folders and go back to the public folder scanning tab and hit scan now.  Let me know if this clears out your messages.

kvetsch,

When you hit scan now to create the public folders take a look in the PFTrain.log and paste that log for me?

No errors. It just seems to be doing it's thing. I started at renaming the folders, nothing. So I renamed them again, nothing. SO I moved all the emails out and deleted the entire GFI Spam folders. Still nothing.

This is going to require us to take a look at your logs to see what is allowing these messages into your organization.  Normally these types of problems are a configuration issue and the logs will allow us to find this.  Please submit a support request at http://support.gfi.com/supportrequestform.asp so we can diagnose this further.

Resolution was as follows:

2008-05-02,09:33:42,404,1,"#00000A5C","#00000007","info   ","PFTrain","ScanNow...one at a time please...exiting"

As you can see the scanning of the public folders appeared to be running when the ScanNow was placed a second time.  The resolution to this was to restart all of the GFI MailEssentials services.  This broke the scan that was running and allowed for the new scan to run.
