Looking for some clarification on the option available when setting the Trigger Time for a scan.  There is an option to "Wait for Offline Machines to Connect to the Network."  Reading the info boxes it appears that it will set that scan to kick off the next time a machine connects to the network and is detected as "Alive", such as a laptop.  I really, really like this feature...if it works like I think it's going to.

The question I have is how does it determine when the machine is on the network and alive?  Does it perpetually scan for that machine at the same time each day, is it constant so shortly after it connects to the network it automatically begins the scan, or exactly how is this accomplished?  Does this require any type of agent be installed on the Laptops first, or???

For the most part I have all of our laptops with a L prefix in our naming convention so I can easily select the laptops and if it hunts for them until it finds them that's even better!

Thank you!

Richard

There are no agents that are deployed, the most common network detection is a simple ping request. The software during its scans will continually try to ping the machine.  Once the ping response is valid the scan begins.
