I have a couple of users who have complained that they can see archived mail that isn't theirs. It's only a few messages and they are only visible under searches or search folders. They do not show up the the browse list. Neither the actual recipients or the inadvertent recipients have any permissions to access each others mail and there are no mailbox routings setup in exchange. We are running MA5 SR1 20080411

Will an index rebuild address this? I've heard lots of horror stories about how long the rebuild can take and my users are a tetchy lot. The server is well specced but we get 16000 messages a day.

Hello, Yes, rebuilding the index would fix the issue. I recommend to use the latest build for GFI MailArchiver 5 SR 1 since in this release we introduced a lot of optimisations to the indexing process. Thanks for using GFI MailArchiver, Kind regards, Joseph D'Emanuele GFI Software Ltd.

Can I simply install 0430 over 0411 or will databases need to be upgraded?

Hmmm. The index rebuild completed without error and the messages that were visible to the user no longer are. However, she can now see more, different messages and unlike previously she can now open and read them.

Hello AMacdonald, If the user is able to open the message, then she should have access to them. Can you verify that she can browse these messages in the Conversations Browse page? Also, please verify that if she should not view these messages, then she is not listed in any group or user mapping in the Access Control page that can give her access to these emails. Thanks and kind regards, Joseph D'Emanuele

I am now seeing this effect on my own account. For example, if I search for all emails with a particular label, I get a selection of results, most of which are not labelled or addressed to me. Normal users cannot open the messages but can see the subject, sender and recipients. The index for the affected month has been rebuilt twice now. Is it possible to completely remove the previous index before reindexing, or does the reindexing process handle that automatically?

A further, complete, index rebuild seemed to fix it. Certainly it's not happening now.
