Occasional emails are slipping through the net here and obvious spam items such as the one below are going straight to the MD? Can I stop this? Is it maybe during updates as services are restarted ? From: © VIAGRA ® Official Site [mailto:j???@????.co.uk] Sent: 30 September 2009 14:43 To: John ???? Subject: Dear ????@????.co.uk 79% 0FF on Pfizer !

suarmitage, Which version and build of GFI MailEssentials are you running? What do you see in the GFI Dashboard/Monitor. Are the emails processing ok? Have you configured these keywords in the Keyword Checking module? Please take a look at this KB article: http://kbase.gfi.com/showarticle.asp?id=KBID003256 Regards, Ben Vincenti GFI Software - www.gfi.com Web & Mail Security, Archiving & Fax, Networking & Security Tel: +44 (0) 1784 448 838

Hi, Mail Essentials 14.1 Mail Essentials is stopping over 3000 emails a day but every so often one slips through and as I said it's one that is quite obviously spam. Viagra is in the keyword checking list, I've added pfizer and vlagra now. It's just that others just like this are already stopped. I'll see how it goes thanks Su

From the info you've provided, it looks more like one of three things: 1. Your SPF record is incorrectly specified for stopping this type of spam. 2. Your SPF module is not configured or set to Never. 3. The sender/recipient is on the whitelist. As to which one, the dashboard will tell you if it's a whitelist problem (action performed was whitelist) or one of the other two (Processed OK). Your SPF should end with -all, not ~all, and your SPF module set to Low or higher. Note that if SPF is set above Low, you will reject all emails where the sender's SPF record ends in ~all. A large proportion of the world have their SPF records set to ~all, which is pretty much useless. Make sure that your SPF record lists all servers that might send on your behalf, including Blackberry servers, web servers etc. if appropriate.

I'd just come back to say they were in the whitelist and saw your reply so thanks you'd got there too. I'll check the SPF too regards Su
